The Oakland A's final homestand... is here

tonight in Oakland: the a’s begin their final home-stand at the coliseum…. not just of this month, and of this season. but … for ever.

it’s something that has obviously been on the calendar for a long time, but arrived so quickly. and now the tragedy that some have been anticipating since april 2023, is the reality that all will be experiencing come thursday, september 26th… once that final home game is over.

i realize there are still actual baseball games to be played. final scores to be tallied. and some milestones to be reached. brent rooker aiming for 40, langeliers & miller shooting for respective 30’s.. i hope gelof and butler both get to 20-20 campaigns.

i literally love all those guys as players, and i truly wish them the best. but no offense, right here right now… none of that… is on my radar this weekend. or the rest of the way. i really couldn’t care less about anything from a baseball sense. i do care about something that was a living, breathing passion for so many.. that will soon become extinct.

actual baseball became the sub-story long ago for the supporters of Oakland. and now, this is entirely about the fans, the journey, the experience, the love, the hurt, and the end.

i plan to make one last trip to the coliseum in its baseball configuration… scoop up some dirt, take one last glance, and walk back out the tunnel. quite honestly i’d rather remember that place with the orange seats, and going to my first ever games of the 80’s, and being innocently excited about learning baseball… rather than whatever these last couple years have become.

it’s also amazing how much green & gold stuff… one can acquire over the decades. sadly, all those jerseys, shirts, posters, stickers… they have either been tossed, or assigned to their new home. a cardboard box, in our attic.

people have asked… will i still make videos about the a’s after this season is over?
to be honest, my brain hasn’t even got that far yet.

considering that… i’ve already lost the team I covered.
then lost my job connected to it… i’m not sure how much i need all those vibes in my life.

however…

i certainly will never lose my connections with sports fans of the east bay… the bay area, and NorCal. and i do intend to respect the legacy of what this franchise was for more than 50 years locally.

also… painful as it might be… i will continue documenting the important history of relocation unfolding, right before our eyes.

i wish i could say something that made anyone feel better.

but here are some general pieces of advice for everyone. if you’re overwhelmed… give yourself some space… this isn’t supposed to feel right. if you’re not from around this area… just leave us alone. and if you are attending any fo the final 6 coliseum games… please be respectful and considerate of others.

this is… after all… the conclusion of a year-long funeral for major league baseball in oakland.

As someone who was passionate about the Atlanta Thrashers, I just want to say I'm so sorry. Nothing but love and respect.

I'm mexican, I have lived my entire life in Mexico City, Im an Oakland A's fan since 1988. Im deeply sorry about the relocation. My first MLB game ever was in 2014 at the Coliseum. Josh Donaldson hit a walk off homer against Zach Britton, one of my best memories of my life. Its so sad for me even if I dont live in the Bay Area. I will be there next wednesday and thursday, cheering for the A's one last time. 😭😭😭

My first ever baseball game was an A’s game in 1988 vs the Mariners at the coliseum. I was 7. I can still remember sitting in the upper deck looking at the Oakland hills thinking it was baseball heaven. What a special place.

I’m sorry A’s fans. It is total BS they are being taken away from you. Hopefully someday (soon) they will return. Enjoy this weekend and take in all the memories of that beautiful place.

Brodie this is just a Car Wreck, and everyone here is injured. Sad Day in sports. Many great memories are there, I remember many times that are heartfelt. Thank you Brodie.

As a diehard Penguins fan since they were "hatched" in 1967 I feel for you my friend. They were close to moving - twice.

And what a double kick in the nuts the move also cost you your job. I wish you and your family all the best!

Your tone and transparency are why you are my favorite YouTuber. Please keep it up.

I still say they'll be back in Oakland in a new ballpark.

As a Raiders fan I was blessed to visit the coliseum once in back 2017, and glad I have memories of at least being there at least once while the A's were still there, although not in baseball configuration. I'm sorry for your loss.

August 21, 1982 was the day that I became a true A's fan. That was the day that my 8-year-old self attended his first baseball game. The A's overcame an early 5-0 deficit to win 12-5 over the Boston Red Sox. Tony Armas hit a Grand Slam and Ricky Henderson stole 3 bases that afternoon (on his way to a record setting 130 that year). Getting to see players like Henderson, Armas, Dwayne Murphy, Davey Lopes, and Steve McCatty in person was awesome.
When I heard the A's were leaving Oakland I told myself that I needed to go to one last A's game at the Coliseum to say goodbye, but now that the time is actually here I can honestly say that I just don't care enough to even want to go. I'll probably watch the game on TV, but any love that I had for the A's is long gone and killed by this current ownership group and their complete ineptitude at running a major league team and complete indifference towards the fan base.

I can’t express how sorry I am. My grandparents lived in Pleasanton for 37yrs. They loved watching the A’s.

As an Arizona Coyotes fan and game night worker for years with the team, I feel for you folks in Oakland. If you're attending... and I hope many of you will be, do yourself a favor. Try to take in EVERY moment that you can and, when you do, try to do as much of it as you can withOUT your phones. Have a good look around and absorb it with your own eyes. Smell the grass, the air, the peanuts & popcorn.... hell, even the beer. Use your human senses. Sure, you're going to take some pics & video, but try not to have your faces buried in your phone all night. Don't ignore the human element of it all. When it's over, and some time has passed, you'll want to know how you really felt in those moments.

Watching you cover the Coyotes and A’s the last couple seasons has really started to make me realize the connection those two teams had with you and why you decided to even begin covering Coyotes news. So sorry for your loss, please enjoy the last games and we’re psyched to see your next chapter 💚💛💚

As a die hard Browns fan, I’m unfortunately very familiar with this moment. This whole saga feels wrong and unfair. Sending a virtual hug to all As fans.
