Hey everyone,
let's talk about an archetype a lot of people assume does not exist in cEDH: CONTROL. Let me know your thoughts in the comment section.

"Small" mistake on the 1v1 Archetype triangle:
It's supposed to be the other way around. Sorry 😅
Proves that I haven't played 1v1 in a while ⚔

Good stuff! Appreciate your fix in your pinned comment, I tend to play control in any given CCG and seeing a turn 1 mountain into Swiftspear, Goblin Guide, etc. always triggers my adrenaline haha gotta stop the bleeding!

Love your stuff bro. I pilot urza and malc tym. Your content is always top. And value your insights into the game.

I've never been much of a cedh player but I recently built an Erinis, Gloom Stalker/Street Urchin background deck and it's performed so well that my pod has been urging me to move it into being a cedh deck. It's gruul control, something I have very little experience with, and as such is quite the learning journey.

Rashmi, Niv Mizzet Parun, and Thras/Vial Smasher lists mixed with a Curiousity effects are also worthy mentions for commanders that can keep the value coming in. 👀👌 Thank you for the video, awesome as always!

I picked up Tasigur and first thought it was a classic midrange combo list. Thought about dropping it cause it felt so awkward to close the game with it and then realized that I just played a control deck wrong 😂

I know this might not be the right place to ask due to the fact that you're talking about cEDH, but the main points you bring during the video are pretty interesting. The store I play holds weekly tournaments where all sort of players try to win the few prices available. I've been going there for a few months already and the meta has shifted away from casual/high sinergy decks to just turbo deck after turbo deck. I'm talking about Winnota, Chatterfang, Yuriko, Tergrid and some other decks I'm missing.
Most of these decks use pretty expensive combo pieces and a lot of tutors to search for the right cards and end the game before I can even start to play. That's why I'm thinking about building a mono blue Baral deck with counterspells as its main strategy. Is there any way to keep it budget while still finding some decent win conditions? I would love to avoid the classic combos like tassa and mana crypt/isochron but I don't know if that's even an option. Thanks for the advice and the video, it was pretty useful!

So control in cEDH is stax + some counterspells and removal? I prefer to think of stax as sub-archetype of control. The tools you are going to use depend on your commander and the color identity of the deck. If you commander allows yo to recycle your instants like Niv Mizzet or Nymris, then you will play more counterspells and removal. If your commander has white color identity you can lean on a more permanent based control strategy using stax pieces.

"Proactive vs reactive" are just different ways to do the same. It is all control at the end of the day.

*sehr gutes Video, on the spot, sehr verständlich. Abo is raus.

Hi, it seems like the link to the Omnath deck primer in your description is dead.

What number do you think is best to pick with Talion? Do you think it is opponent dependent?

I think I’m going to split my Tymna/Kraum Deck into a Couple 2 Color Decks to go with Sythis and Najeela. I’ll probably add Talion, Niv-Mizzet, and Kinnan to my Roster.

Control is still viable. Tempo is another story. I used to play Threshold in Legacy and i wish i could play a similar playstyle in Cedh. Najeela might be the closest thing.

What are your thoughts on Dralnu as a control commander? Kess usually is the better commander when you want to win ASAP. Dralnu can leave up interaction and CA in other players turns.

Recently I heard Nymris is doing this. I want to play this deck.

What about true prison decks? Do they exist in edh? Like Karn Mycosynth or something like that.

This makes me really wonder about Atraxa and Tivit. But really atraxa and can't argue with the Results Tivit has put up this year.

I play Temur Dargo so I'm out of my comfort zone with this. But shouldn't Atraxa be built as cEDH's "best control deck". She is a value engine. Bow famously dubbed "Bad Naus". To get there is to really on the 99. Generally built with 2 win cons : Thoracle and Food Chain.
She seems like the perfect candidate to push into a classic control shell. Counterbalance+D.Top, all the black hate bears. I would go as far and say O.Thief package. Value ad naus + peer + necro/borne.

I'm I off here?
