There's a similar story in Java Island, Indonesia. Borobudur temple is the biggest Buddhist temple which is built around 700-800 AD. Sometimes later the temple was abandoned. It is still unknown why and when it was buried but one thing for sure is that it was buried under tons of volcanic ash and plants. It was buried and forgotten for almost a thousand year until a farmer accidentally found it and then they give the information to the British and they started to dig it out. It's honestly really fascinating that a monument as big as that can easily be gone and forgotten.

The boxwood carved religious object is so cute, it’s like you got your own chapel/church/cathedral on the go with you so that no matter where you are praying, you still have a sense of community that you normally would feel when being in those places in person. I would love to know if there are any historical records involving the creation of such carvings(whether it be a special kind of commission or if it was a semi mass produced carving that the others just didn’t withstand the test of time), the microscopic joints really intrigue me with how they might’ve managed to achieve those tiny little joints

Those relic carvings were truly impressive. I can't imagine the intricate techniques employed and the time spent carving that.

Those are some awesome Old wood carvings. One solid piece of wood that hinges open and closed.
And also you can hide your weed in there

This is more proof that humans thousands of years ago where absolutely tiny. Those carvings were life-sized.

If they are carved out of a single piece of wood, why would they have joints? 🤔

I'm truly amazed at those little carvings. How did people back then make something so intricate without a microscope?? There's that guy on TikTok that makes those carvings out of a single grain of rice... But even he uses a microscope to do so
