I don't know if you have ever tried this, but I once learned that one method for preventing breaking out of character is to have the person NOT facing the camera close there eyes while facing the person who is facing the camera. For example, you could have Niki close her eyes in the scene where the back of her head is facing the camera. We wouldn't know the difference, and it would make it easier for the other person to concentrate and stay in character. This worked like a charm when I helped record an amateur skit video back in college.
