Not only in Germany. Also in the Netherlands and other countries in Europe.

In America if you get burnt out you get 0 help 0 sympathy and pretty much only yelled at. Forced to do more work. Burning out in the us is a death sentence.

I am from Germany and have lived here my whole life. Despite this, I still drag myself to work even when I am sick, for fear of being fired at some point because I have become ill. I am aware that there is this security system in place in case of an emergency, but for some reason it has no effect on me. When I think about losing my job, I don't see a new opportunity in life ahead of me, but rather I see myself in homelessness and poverty, going to church hungry, having to get soup, etc.
People in the USA live with this reality every day, I really respect the people in the USA who still spend money to go on vacation or pursue hobbies.
I think if I lived in the US, I wouldn't even buy clothes regularly, but would just save all my money in case I got sick and then have to pay for high doctor and hospital bills. The fear of getting sick in the US and going to the hospital would paralyze me so much in my decision-making that I wouldn't even leave the house, I would only leave the house to go to work and to go shopping.

That's actually what my husband does atm. His workplace was so toxic that we decided that he called in the next day. (The bullying started a year ago.) The best thing to fight back is to call in sick. The company cannot replace you and still must pay you until you can quit (we have deadlines for being able to quit which vary from place to place). So. Yeah, he relaxes until he is able to leave that company and then he receives money from the government because he is jobless and is able to apply to new jobs.

In Spain we have depression leave and women who suffer from very painful periods can also get period leave until the pain subsides.

This reminds me of a post that was like "I wish we still went to the seaside when we felt ill like in Victorian times" and a lot of people replied that Germany still does that! It's called a Kur, where you just go away to a relaxing place, near the sea or up in the mountains, where you literally just relax. . You can go there for lots or reasons, it's to prevent stress-related illnesses and chronic conditions either from developing in the first place, or from becoming worse. Also: struggling parents are legally entitled to this for about three weeks every four years. Meals, childcare and therapies are all included. My mom did it twice, once with my older brother and once with me, just to spend time with each of her new babies away from the stressful everyday life.

This is like two people talking about their partners and the abused one being shocked that the other persons partner treats them with what should be the bare minimum. They think there has to be a catch.

I had this at the end of last year. I had worked undstaffed for more than a year basicly doing the work of two people. Then my husband had a stroke. At first I kept working, then after work caring for my husband, my mother and father in law (one of them with dementia) and my son. And then one day in all was just to much. My doctor got me on sick leave for four weeks. My employer strongly encouraged me to take the Off-time. And after the for weeks I startet working full time again. Thanks to the good care my husband recived in the rehabilitationcenter, he is back at work full-time again. In the end I think the Public Investment in peoples health does pay of in the long term. Sorry for all the spelling mistakes. The German autocorrect does Not like English.

As a German I would guess there's no such thing as burnout in the states as if you'd give in to it you'd basically go bankrupt instantaneous and will have to slowly starve to death. That doesn't mean people aren't burned out. They're just not given the opportunity to deal with it at their own pace. Which is very dangerous.

In the US, you either suck it up or quit your job. It happened to me last year. Got a huge burnout and quit my job. Had a “me time” for a month before applying for another job. Fortunately, had enough savings that allowed me to do this unlike many other people here in the US.

Can I get burn out leave from my family?

I'm a SAHM, but doing ALL the chores, cooking, groceries, projects, management, 90% of childcare & registration & sending kids to activities... it's just gotten to be too much. I'm definitely burnt out.

Not to mention my alcoholic father who is once again staying with us won't pick up after himself.

My jaw dropped ngl. I called out sick once at my retail job as a teen and they were so angry and accusatory despite me being their best employee
