gamestation was actually a much better shop than GAME, as it had retro games for sale & other cool retro game related goodies, it was fun to go there & see what they had.was very sad when they all closed down and now we're left with boring GAME within a sports shop 🤦🏼‍♀️

It's crazy that gaming is one of the biggest if not THE biggest entertainment industries in the world and you just don't get game shops in the high street any more.

I used to work in Game and I left when it moved into the local Sports Direct. Now I work in CEX 😂😂

I remember going in game station and spending hours just browsing and looking at preowns deals. Game would’ve been brilliant but their service and prices are horrendous

The last two times I went into GAME, I had bad experiences. Both times, one of the workers followed me around the store like they thought I was gonna steal something. The last visit, I asked about an Assassins Creed game but I got the name wrong and, the member of staff I was talking to, started being very condescending. I swore after that that I would never buy anything from GAME again. That was about 9 years ago. They’ve not had a single penny from me in that time.

My local GAME closed last year and they didn't even bother to move it into our Sports Direct. They closed my next closest store too, so now my closest store is an hour and a half away by train. I've no option other than Amazon now.

GAME played themselves big time when they abandoned the second hand & retro video game market. Second hand video game sales make up a huge chunk of the market and by ditching it, they allowed a main competitor in CEX to dominate this thriving area of the market. Not to mention the fucking merchandise overload that now plagues the “video game” merchant.

I felt the same way walking into Curry’s where I live. Place feels empty. Not only with the lack of customers, but the items actually on display. As for the gaming section, that’s honestly down right depressing.. Half the time you want something, they need to order it in online for you. It’s sad that everything is moving away from shops and heading towards online only.

Subscription services and people getting more use to buying digital is killing the physical market. Plus now even the hardware is sold direct, like the ps vr2 is not even in the shops yet, only from sony, same with the valve steam deck, it’s another nail in the coffin for retailers, which is shame I don’t want them to disappear but again like you said having it in a corner of sports shops where they don’t even really seem to make the effort now with new releases etc i can’t see them surviving sadly.

Used to love Game back in the day! Bought all my PS1 and PS2 stuff there in the 90s/00s, loved going through the pre owned stuff too for bargains. They really should call it a day now, it's beyond depressing!

A member of staff told me it was just a way to save on rent. What's weirder is that you can't pay for Sports Direct stuff at the Game counter and you can't pay for Game stuff at the Sports Direct counter, despite the fact that they were right next to each other in the store I visited, the Game staff member wasn't busy and the Sports Direct counter had a big queue. I'll be honest, I rarely buy anything from Game, and when I do it's usually a plush for my kids, but what a way to go out, buried behind cheap trainers and badly fitting sports wear.

You have to sell things that pay the bills.. sometimes this has to happen. I mean look at many game stores these days. Cards, plushies, toys, food, even some clothes. You have to offer more to make$$$

I stopped going into my local game when in got moved into sports direct they got crammed into the corner up stairs and most of their old staff look miserable as a result. While it makes sense to combine the two as they are owned by the cheapest man on earth Mike Ashley they could have at least dedicated more space.

It makes me sad as a former manager of Gamestation (9 years) who were owned by Blockbuster then sold to Game who screwed it up and now they have run their own company into the ground Gamestation was way cooler than corporate Game it wouldn't be like this if Gamestation was still around instead of Game

My local GAME "concession" is awful, incredibly small and all the games are behind the counter - so you can't even browse anything!

Yeah, it’s the same in Leeds, up to the second floor of Sports direct and dealing with staff who have no interest / knowledge of gaming. I did actually get what I went in for though (Atari 50 on ps5) but yes, in Leeds in the 90’s and early 2000’s we had a huge GAME and right Nextdoor a huge HMV (now also moved to smaller premises) up the road there was Virgin Megastore and Electronics Boutique - truly gamers and film watchers paradise - all gone now. Interestingly, I was just in Scarborough for a day out with my other half and the GAME there is still an independent shop.

I am very grateful that my Nuneaton store hasn’t been placed into a Sports Direct and still is in its own store.

I miss going into game shops browsing the games, my favourite was action replay, I remember going in there during lunch break at college in 2004, watching burnout 3, good times
