From the UK First pressing of “Picture Book”. 1985.

This was a request from subscriber Jon Fairway. Hope you enjoy!. Recommend listening to the WAV or Flac files as they sound clearer IMO.

I read up about this album and it’s an all analogue affair apparently. It sounds quite different on vinyl compared to the standard CD/digital transfer.

I recorded this track using the Croft tube phono stage and Pass B1 buffer combo. The sound is big and full IMO , but the Croft phono stage is not as tight and fast in the bass as a phono stage with a regulated PSU. The Croft is also a bit recessed in the mids. I’ll repeat this track with my AI P2 phono stage soon (for comparison) when I’ve finished servicing it. It has a much tighter and faster sound.

I did some manual click removal to get rid of any distracting clicks

If you want to compare two digital versions are here:

Equipment:
Linn Sondek LP12 turntable (precirkus)/Hercules PSU
Linn Ittok LVII Tonearm
Linn Kandid MC Cartridge
S&B TX103 MC Step up transformers
Croft RIAA MM tube Phono stage
Loading with metal film resistors at 42 ohms
Pass B1 buffer clone (cap coupled) with extra Wima FKP1 bypass caps.

One of the few songs that truly defined what it's like to live back in 1985. Sounds like it is actually recorded around the time period.
