This longer version includes a word problem (problem in context; the problem contextualized) to show the graphs of Juan and Annie starting at home and moving apart as they move to the park. I also take a closer look at Annie's position when Juan reaches the park (1.5 hours, 3 miles for Juan).
Furthermore, I think that students should practice switching between the slope-intercept for of an equation (y = mx + b) and the standard form of an equation (Ax + By = C). I added at the end, solving this problem using the standard form of an equation.
