This passage is often preached as though it were an imperative, when in fact, it's an indicative statement about God's creation. He has made us holy as He is holy, not that we can ever be holy just because God says we _should be_ but that _we are_ because He _made us_ that way.

Not quite. God is telling us that He will RESTORE our holiness because He is holy. It's not an ultimatum- it's a promise.
