The US Supreme Court has ruled that Donald Trump is partially immune from prosecution for actions taken while he was in the White House.

The decision means the federal election interference case against Trump will return to a lower court, which will then decide how to apply the Supreme Court ruling.

While the court ruled that the former president is immune from criminal prosecution for "official acts" taken in office, he is not immune for "unofficial acts".

Writing the court's opinion, Chief Justice John Roberts said: "The nature of Presidential power entitles a former President to absolute immunity from criminal prosecution" for official acts taken as president.

The document stipulates that courts would need to distinguish between what were official and unofficial actions.

This is the kind of stuff that gets in history books. Then kids decades in the future ask the teacher "how did the people let this happen? It was super obviously destroying democracy and equality!"; and half the class decides they were all accomplices, and the other half that they were all imbeciles.

Everything has become partisan now!
Nothing is spared!
Even public health advisories have become polticized!

This maneuver will give Trump the ability to further tie up the courts.
Every act will have its own extended court case.
Scotus just added molasses to the courts.

As an American, I apologize to all other reasonable human beings on the planet for our unfortunate but inherent stupidity that seems to have taken over this country at every level....

Pretty sure trying to overthrow the government because you didn’t like the results of an election is a Personal thing and not official.😂

This is massive for biden too. As current potus, he can use this immunity to take out trump as part of official duty.

The charges were political and the supreme court ruling was political too.

It's become embarrassing to admit that I'm an American. My only consolation is that I don't have to live in that insane country ever again.

2:00 What a STUPID comment. This has nothing to do with party lines, and everything to do with six justices having been picked by Leonard Leo and the Federalist Society to upend American democracy as we know it. That fact that the BCC doesn’t have any commentators anymore that tell you this straight up is concerning.

So, the $64, 000 question is: Was it an "official" or "unofficial" Presidential act when he incited an insurrection? "Fight like Hell!"
