Such a unique and special player. He may not be remembered as an all-time great by the hockey world, but the streets will never forget how good he was 🔥

I was a young Habs fan when he was playing with Montreal, and was always my favorite.

What about the goal without a helmet? Honestly Kovalev was one of the most gifted and beloved players Montreal had. Was always a joy to watch what moves he would do. He made everything look so easy. I remember when the fans organized a demonstration outside Bell Centre for Gainey to resign him!

The Darcy Tucker hit was still his best highlight

My favorite player of all time. He was a huge part of the 94 rangers cup run with 21 points, played with the greats Lemieux and Jagr, and was the best Montreal Canadiens player of the last two decades. Last one to be above a point per game on the Habs also. He is often overlooked as one of the greats, but in my view he is right up there as a legend of the game. I'm glad he's getting a little love with this video.

Growing up in Montreal this guy is the reason I played hockey, gave me chills every time he touched the puck. I had the opportunity of meeting him a few years back, just a great guy, who's presence still gives you chills.

Kovalev had his best years in Pittsburgh. Loved playing as him in NHL 03.

Man I loved Kovalev and Koivu growing up. Both players were my childhood and Kovalev was just so fun to watch as he was so slick and crafty with his dekes. His puckhandling was A+. At other times it would be frustrating to watch him also as he seemed lazy sometimes. I definitely know Montreal loved him and it was sad when he was let go by Montreal. We havent had someone with the flashy skills like Kovalev. Maybe Radulov comes close and Montreal let him go too.

Горжусь тем, что имел возможность играть с Лёхой в одной команде, даже иногда в одной пятёрке. Это еще в детстве было, в Тольятти, нам по 7-9 лет было. Он тогда уже был ЛУЧШИМ.

Wow. Kovalev was THAT good. He had some serious high level skill like I’ve never seen before. He musta been a handful to defend against.

As a Habs fan by birth. Gotta love to see #2 and #1 against the Bruins. 😁
Of course Kovalev had incredible stick handling skills. He also had incredible skating skills. One thing that helped him rise among the NHL stars.

Quite possibly the greatest what if player of all time. All world talent with very little compete in his heart I believe.
