Roger was on pins & needles the whole 2nd week of this tournament after Nadal lost... he got past Tommy Haas only by a whisker, and had a similar close call in this match with Delpotro playing at such a high level. But the moment this thriller ended, i think everyone understood that Soderling wouldn't be able to threaten Roger, and that a historic French Open title would surely be his.

Del Potro is an incredible talent who unfortunately has been plagued with injuries

Many ppl think it was an easy title win for Roger, but he could have lost twice en route to his title..

32:25 is the most bazooka forehand Ive ever seen. Federer facial expression was just as astonished. That was power.

41:11 no cheering from Roger's dad after Del Potro's double fault on break point, what a classy man.
Even vexation and disappoinment on his face that break was given that way.
Pretty sure Djokovic's father would shouted and fist pumped in the same situation

I can't imagine Federer fan's heart in this match and the match vs Tommy Haas. I'm happy I was rooting for Rafa during this tournament.. Oh wait not that much

33:53- Roger hits a winner, off a winning shot from Juan.

Federer is underrated on clay. The guy made 5 RG finals. If it wasn't for Nadal he'll probably have more than one RG title.

Haas, Delpo, and then Soderling in the final. A lot of people remember Fed's 2009 French victory as the one he "stole" bc Nadal got the upset but the truth is his path was still as hard as it can be without Nadal.

the disguise shot by Delpotro is unreal, always gets Roger.

Federer capitalised on his first and last chance to win the French Open. Hard luck Del Potro!

Never thought Federer was close to losing. Del Potro was on fire, if not for the variety Federer threw at him, the latter would have lost.

This is one of the very best clay court matches ever, especially for those spectators who generally prefer grass or hard court surfaces because even though they like a hard struck ball and good rallies, they don't want to see every point go 10-25 shots which is typical on clay. Because of the amazing talent of these guys, both at their peak I would say, this match has everything. Don't understand why this match is not featured more as a classic. It is truly an awesome match. I knew Del Potro was fabulous at his peak, especially when he beat Fed at the 2009 U.S. Open but I had no idea Roger could really play this well on clay. This match deserves more publicity. I got to see Del Po live in Cincy in 2013 but while his forehand was still awesome, he clearly wasn't quite at the level he was pre-injury, especially on the backhand side. I was really impressed to see how well Roger could hit hard when he needed to and his creativity and strategizing because at this point you could not outhit Del Po, you could outplay him maybe with smarts and all the talent in the world and that's what Fed had.

As a Fed fan I like more this suffered Majors than the easy ones. It feels better

Juan Martin is arguably the nicest guy in ATP in history.
