Hey guys. Thanks for your requests for this Jimi Hendrix classic. This brings back memories of my first electric guitar and I am thrilled to get this out there. I’d like to point out some things about the tune.

The mix of this song is kind of muddy and fuzzy. It sounds amazing because it’s Jimi Hendrix of course, but it can be a challenge to pick out certain things. Take the second verse for example. There’s a little lick being played in measure 29 and a barre of first finger on 7th fret ADGB strings (E7sus4). The outro bends I believe are played in unison with the open high E string. I checked out some live videos of Hendrix and seen him do this at one point. I used to play it as a single note, but it sounded a little empty in comparison. Either way, it’s all in how you wish to approach it.

I respect and recognize Jimi as one the most influential guitarist and musician ever, even if I like him the most strictly as "musician" and not as a "guitar player". This said, and the thing shines on you clearly even more after seeing a quite perfect execution like this, Purple Haze in the original recording (and the first chorus shows it the best) shows how "sexy" was Jimi guitar playing. And tone simply cannot be matched. Wonderful work as usual, even if I'm still waiting for "Key to Love" in the 1995 Montreux version (not 1990's version, 1995's!) from Gary Moore, it'd be a nice way to remember only some days after his 70th birthday. I started playing guitar about 3 years before this song was released and I have always been mystified how this incredible solo was played ..even today it is amazingly ethereal with its unusual voicing and phrasing. I really can't think of any other equivalent solo. This posting sounds and looks spot on - really groovy man!

As a lefty playing righty guitars for decades, I appreciate you getting a left guitar. People have no idea how much it used to suck being left handed. Playing right handed is Not an option!
