That "Mbps" unit referred to an application size is just painful 💀 but I'm picky, nice short :)

You aren't forced to use rust when using tauri

Tauri isn't quite there yet, but it's in a good direction. Once the APIs are clearly defined to the point where you can swap out your back end language of choice, it'll be the clear winner. Last time I checked it out, swapping back end languages was on the radar.

Why people don't use tauri? Most of the OS stuff is abstracted away with plenty of apis. You might not need to write a single line of rust to make an application.

Teams, visual studio code all built on electron

If done right an Electron app can be almost indistinguishable from a native app made in WPF or Java. Considering most apps are light front ends there is no need for native apps.

RAM usage can be fixed with front end optimisations.

As a user, i hate electron apps, its fine if you got one, but ehen i have 2 discords, vs code, notion, and some other opened it eats my ram worse than chrome did back when i used it

When comparing the pros and cons, electron is amazing
Initially I hated it because of watching videos like this then when I tried different ways to build cross platform desktop app, electron was the winner, especially as I’m a JavaScript web developer

Electron is great if you are a small team and don’t need performance. Otherwise, you might need speed 🏃🏻‍♂️

IMO Flutter is the best framework to build a cross-platform application. It runs on all Desktop and Mobile OSs and isn't nearly as heavy as Electron. (even web apps if you want but JS is way better there)

I like Electron. It's fine. People will use Chrome or Chromium-based browsers without any complaint but still cry about Electron and JavaScript like the worst thing ever.

Making mistakes is a part of improving yourself so you must have a sandbox environment to be free to make mistakes. In the real world mistakes matter so I must try to avoid those mistakes

One of the best uses for electron I’ve found is creating a game in three.js - end users won’t be able to tell the difference between your electron app and a full fledged game created in an engine

There is also Wails which is Go in the Backend and has great dev experience.

I hated it also as a user, a lot of applications use it and my potato pc couldn't handle all of this.

Bro just use angular. By your logic, once angular boots up it it will be lighting fast, also it boots up crazy fast. Or just use Spring with bunch of plugins

i feel like using rust in tauri is not even needed. if you're making a large application then you're gonna keep your node js or go api separate anyway.

i just found out about tauri today and it looks really promising: it supports desktop AND mobile, the setup is really easy and i dont need to learn rust!

if you have an already existing website hostes on a domain, you can just build native app for every common platform in a moment!

im still not quite sure how large is the current tauri ecosystem (electron's ecosystem is much larger and better supported in comparison), but I'll give it a shot!

ps I'm not planning to use the rust back rnd because it's kinda unnecessary in my project. i just need a webview for my project and this framework does it much better than electron.

Either go native or just use PWA . (for most applications)

I made one called Generators which only has a DTR Generator and a String Generator. 4 pages in total including the boot page and about page. It was around 300MB WHEN INSTALLED!

It's an open source one but was also used by our LGU since it does not save any information aside preference information for the updater and tutorial info.

I love and hate it tbh.
