The 1977 Boing 747 accident occurred when two Boeing 747 passenger aircraft collided head-on off the coast of Ireland. This incident went down in history as the deadliest aircraft accident of the year in which the accident occurred.

The accident involved a Boeing 747, Flight 4805 of KLM Airlines and a Boeing 747, Flight 1736 of Pan American World Airways (Pan Am) Airlines, which took off from Schiphol Airport in the Netherlands on 27 March 1977. Both aircraft were en route to Los Angeles, California.

The accident occurred at a time when visibility of the airport runway was restricted due to foggy weather conditions. Both aircraft were approaching the runway with delays from different points, and there were communication problems between the tower control and the pilots. The KLM aircraft took off without the permission of the tower control, at which time the Pan Am aircraft was about to take off from the runway. The KLM aircraft crashed into the Pan Am aircraft, resulting in 583 fatalities.

This accident is considered one of the deadliest accidents in aviation history, and the number of passengers and crew killed in the accident was quite high. Following the accident, a series of safety measures and communication procedure changes were made in the aviation industry. Many lessons were learnt to prevent the recurrence of such accidents.
