Just to clarify, the Russo brothers specified that he is Victor von Doom. This is *not* a Tony Stark Doom, this is a Victor von Doom that just so happens to be Robert Downey Junior.

So I watched some interviews with Matt Shakman, the director for Fantastic Four. He said he has known about the RDJ news for quite a while and when asked if RDJ would appear in Fantastic Four, Matt said he could not answer. I think it’s more than likely we get his Doom in that film first. I’m gonna assume RDJ is playing a Doom that’s not from the Sacred Timeline since The Fantastic Four are not from the Sacred Timeline.

The main problem the internet has with RDJ as Doom is that they can't separate RDJ from Stark.
No one blinked twice when they saw Chris Evans as Captain America instead of Johnny Storm.
Then again, maybe there's no reason to separate them. We'll see in 2 years!~

Really like what Eric was saying, my thinking goes the same way for things. I'm very open and just want a good story. Lot of people are mad about the casting and calling it "lazy casting". The thing is we know very little so there's no point making judgements now. The Ironman character wasn't originally supposed to die in endgame but they went ahead with it. RDJ just wanted to do other projects to prove that he's an actual actor who can act, and once he won an oscar (Which he now has) he said he'd be happy to return and do more projects. I'd much rather this than just bringing Ironman back for Secret Wars. Yes it's a shame we won't get a new flashy actor but RDJ is great and there's many more characters for actors to play. We've now already gotten Harrison Ford and Giancarlo Esposito in the MCU. Many people say RDJ is the godfather of the MCU and this will definitely bring them in. Overall I'm super hyped and eager to see what kind of performance he brings!!!

Two comic storylines that could inspire RDJ as Doom are one where Doom becomes Iron Man and an alternative universe comic where they switch bodies. I could see "What if" tackling the latter.
