How to dress up when you have a muscular build?

As a Physique Competitor, I run into sizing issues on a regular basis with my clothing. Here are 10 tips that I can offer:

1) Well fitted, solid v-neck shirts are your friend. They are great for casual-wear and really allow your physique to shine through.
2) When shopping for more formal shirts, look for labels such as "Athletic Fit", "Custom Fit", or even "Slim Fit". These usually fit the best.
3) Utalize the "Master Cuff" when rolling up longs sleeves. (Antonio highlights this in a previous video) This cuff usually stays in place and will make it less likely that you will tear the elbows on your dress-shirts.
4) Polo shirts, though they aren't my favorite style choice, are generally quite flattering to a well-built figure. Especially in the arms.
5) Beware of "Button Stretching" in the front of dress shirts. It will be tempting to squeeze into dress shirts which fit well around your mid-section, but these will often be far too tight in the chest.
6) Be conscious of your current body-state. Many bodybuilders go through cycles of bulking and cutting. The clothes that fit you during your cut will not fit you during your bulk.
7) Embrace dress-pants. From my experience, dress-pants fit 1000x better than jeans on fit men.
8) When you find a jean-size/brand that works, remember it! As all fit-guys know, jeans are probably the hardest piece of clothing to shop for.
9) Invest in good belts. You will often have to buy pants which are a little bit wide on your waist so that they can accommodate your legs. Belts will be a part of your every day life.
10) This one isn't a style tip but more of a overall mentality tip, don't be afraid to be proud of your body! I was once told by a coach of mine that a well-built body is like one of those old classic cars that some guys work on in their garages. When they first get the car, it doesn't look much better than any other vehicle but through the hours and hours of effort that they put in, they transform the car into something special. Once something like that is created, it would be a shame to see it left in the garage.

P.S. Antonio,
I have recently come across a site called itailor.com. It is a fashion retailer that allows users to customize and purchase reasonably priced pieces of clothing. I am in no way affiliated with the company, but a friend showed it to me a few days ago and I thought that I'd pass the word along to you.

Best Wishes,
Jon

If you have a large chest and a small waist all you have to do is get a piece that fits your upper body comfortably, and you just have to take it to the tailor to tailor the waist. That way you avoid looking shabby or overweight.

Bodybuilders know that our clothing sizes completely change depending on the season (bulking or contest-prepping)!

Powerlifter and body builder does not have the same body style, powerlifters usually have bigger abdominals/core muscles making the belly look "fat"

Guys, I lived in Bangkok for 2.5 years. It is true that you would get tailored cloths as per below for the price of 1-2 pieces of jackets in your countries. (depending the exchange rate of which western countries you are from). It is worth your money even with the airfares, as the workmanship is extremely good and they would make them in 3 days! (tip - go to the site street shop for better prices)
2-3 tailored jackets + tailored 4-6 pants +10 tailored shirts and the shop might give 1/2 dozen ties or/and cheap cufflinks.

If you are a built male, button ups are the best way to go. You can button them all up or leave some unbuttoned as it will contour to the shape of your body

Finally! I’ve been searching for this type of info! As a powerlifter it’s tough to get clothes that fit

Another tip: In pants, look for non pleated, relaxed fit, for example, Dockers D4. This can accomodate big legs/rear and keep a slim/normal waist.

if ur a bodybuilder I HV sm tips fr u.
bodybuilder:they usually HV a wide chest, a wide back, huge thighs, n yes really huge arms, the trick here is if ur shoulder length is 18 inches, always buy a T-shirt that has shoulder length 17inches.that's it.rest everything falls in plc.ur gona get a tight fit around ur chest, so that ur chest cuts are visible, ur arms wil burst out thru' ur sleeves.n yes make sure the T-shirt is "slim fit"that covers t-shirts and shirts.
For pants, there's nothing DT will fit u perfectly u HV get them altered o u gotta stitch them according to hw u wan them..(tailored fit, slim fit or skinny fit)
hope this helps

My own very helpful tips:
1. Wear a tank top beneath your shirt. It makes your traps and chest look massive.2. Put on a bit more body fat. 3. Wear lighter colors. This gives the illusion of 'popping out'.4. Obviously, size down.5. Wear clothes that are well tailored around chest area.

Basically, wear anything you want if you are muscular.

Tailors are indeed your god fathers. Getting things altered to fit you well is the very least every modern man must do! :)
