The best airlines have the worst customer service😩

This is a general experience I’ve had with most of the best airlines in the world. I don’t even need to recount all the issues I’ve had with Qatar Airways and their customer support, but I’ve also faced an equal amount of issues with Singapore Airlines. Earlier this year I was trying to cancel a flight and my miles were not refunded. I’ve tried contacting them three times, and each time it says the response time is five business days. I still haven’t heard back two months later🤦‍♂️ Still, I keep coming back for more because the onboard experience is so good!

On the other end of the spectrum, there are some airlines in Europe with good customer service, but this point really applies to US carriers. Most of them, perhaps besides American, have industry-leading technology that allows you to make changes and get the right support faster than in any other part of the world. If only they cared as much about the in-flight experience😮‍💨

Of course there are many exceptions to this rule. Most notably, my national carrier. Although their onboard experience is pretty terrible, their customer service is equally bad… if not worse🥲

Qatar Airways once misconnected my luggage, and it took me more than an hour of calling multiple international phone numbers to find out what I can do to get my luggage back. So I had to spend money for their mistake by paying my phone bills. No compensation was given. Horrible.

I can definitely confirm that for united airlines. Had a problem purchasing my tickets and I texted them via Facebook where they instantly reached out to me, a couple minutes later they even called me ( and I don't live in the US).
Once my baggage got delayed it was instantly transported with the next flight, the United baggage Center next to the baggage claim at the airport explained everything and took care of all of my concerns.

Not saying they're the best airline, their foods are shit sometimes, but if you have a problem they are usually there for you to make sure you got everything you need.

Had to contact Emirates once. Took 2 Minutes to get connected to an agent via chat. Really good service on board and ground

Singapore airlines customer service is basically nonexistent 😂 not to mention that their agent basically knows nothing about what I’m asking

This is so true. Emirates is also a good example of great in the air, terrible for customer service. However I think it comes down to cultural expectations to some degree. US domestic carriers all suffer in the air, but they are major corporations that have to function as expected in the US market. Customer service suffers across the board in my other countries- whether it is travel, finance, retail, you name it- they just do not put the same value on customer service as the US does.

True - Qatar need to improve their customer support service and Hamad Airport need to improve their ground staff service and visibility. Changi airport do a good job on the ground but the customer service of SIA has gone down terribly

That is 💯 true! It was one day before Christmas Eve (So peak traveling time!) and I had a problem with online Check-In for my American Airlines flight the next morning! So I called them and had to wait in line for only about 3 minutes before the agent helped me with superior friendliness!

Although I don’t have too much experience with the 5 star airlines, I do often fly United and wow they have been nothing but great to me every time I need to contact them online or by phone. They also have always been decent or good in service onboard even if their products aren’t near as great as the 5 star airlines like Singapore.

Good observation. Good airlines don't seem to invest in customer support because they know their strong sale point is by good on-board service. I hope they work on this issue
