Don't forget the best editors even though they may be introverts have a lot of intuitive and sensible practical way of connecting the film to the audience.

Good points! The only reason I wouldn’t hire an editor is if I was shooting for the edit. I tend to find an edit is easy to do myself if I’m shooting to storyboards/have the edit allready worked out in my head. If I’m going to shoot a bunch of footage and construct the edit in post, hiring an editor makes a lot more sense.
