South Kaibab trail love the I've done NK to BA last year and then SK to NK last October. I'm planning to go SK to NK to BA for an R2R2R next year in less than 24 hours...

Apple watch is nice but I spend a week or more completely off grid and 2 days battery life just can't cut it. When they can get 15 to 30 days like Garmin then I can consider one.

Really enjoy your no nonsense channel

This is great for me. I have a limited amount of time to do multi day/out of mobile coverage hikes so that peace of mind on a device I already own is perfect. I’ve been looking at an InReach device but I won’t anymore unless I am able to do some more serious trips where the battery life and tracking have a high value.

Useful and exciting news. Thanks. If Apple significantly extends its new iWatch battery power, then it will be a serious contender.

Interesting and thanks for the good information. For day hikes, this is great, as I see so many people getting into trouble because they assume their phone will have service. For more serious backpackers, a small percentage of the majority, I would still rely on my Garmin because through experience I can not rely on my phone’s battery life or battery back up if truly needed for an emergency depending on temperature and length of trip.

My iphone 11 Pro Max was $1, 200 so I'm happy with my Inreach for now but this will be great some day for many of us. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the heads up
Wonder what support there will be for other countries like Australia, so many of the map apps dont have good support for Australian trails / walks

Was just out on a nicely maintained rail trail in beautiful weather. Had my 67i to keep testing it and figuring out what I need to learn about it. 😊I went to put my iphone in a pocket, missed and it fell face first on gravel - a distance of 3 feet. The screen protector did its job and was cracked in 6 different places. I haven’t pulled it off yet to see if the screen survived. The iphone may be starting to get some of the software functions in reach offers, but it’s still not in the same league for hardware.

Lots of exciting new tech coming! Integrated trail maps should be interesting…

Competition is a great thing between these tech companies and we all benefit.

Finally a new feature that's actually useful from Apple.

It's good to see them advancing in this area. IMO it'll be a while before Apple Maps is any real competition to the likes of Gaia, OnX, or Alltrails. It took years for Apple Maps (for driving) to get to the point where it was usable. The new text messaging via satellite is huge though!

Thanks for being the first one bringing this on.
It will be very nice and useful having these in your iphone or Apple Watch but a watch like the Garmin Fenix 7x is still irreplaceable, at least for me. And I mean only the navigation capabilities.

These features are cool and definitely catered to the average weekend hiker. Will be interesting to see how these things translate into the bigger market of us "power users." Alltrails is probably going to be hurting the most if the maps work well.

I’m the same! Trying to decide between a Garmin Epix pro and an Apple ultra 2. I’ve been leaning towards the Epix, now the decision is even harder! Thanks a lot lol!! I’ll probably end up with both!
