We love our specialty mountain and road bikes, but it’s hard to beat a trusty commuter for everyday riding. Canyon, a direct-to-consumer bike brand based in Germany, has finally started distributing in the U.S., and we were eager to get our hands on its newest commuter. Here's what our gear editor Ben Fox loves about the Urban 8.0.

I have had an Urban 8.0 for the past few years. I do have the Alfon 11 speed and the disc brakes. I do not have the dynamo light.I don't think it was marketed in the US, although I did get mine through the Canyon website.. I love the bike. It rides well and it's my go to bike for riding around town

A good First Impressions. The headlight/bar combination gives an aircraft type look. I like it. Jan. 2024 I cannot locate one like it for sale anywhere.

How about an actual review? What size did you guys test? How well does that rather flimsy-looking rack work? What size tires can you fit under the fenders?

I like the red color and it looks kind of nifty, but how is the price justified? What in that bike costs 2300$?

beautiful bike, but totally useless and mundane commentary. I could've gotten all that in a glance. How does it perform? What are the cons? How does it feel to ride compared to a Specialized Bad Boy, etc.? Details man!

I really wanted this and ordered it six months ago. Canyon repeatedly delayed the delivery (I’m in the U.K.) to the point where I jut cancelled my order. Be wary!

How do you feel this compares to the alpenchallenge 01 one?

Supposedly you can buy bikes directly from Canyon, but this model is not listed on their US site. So how do you get it?

Not sure how old this vid is but that bike looks more like the Canyon Commuter, having both the fenders (mudguards) and integrated lights. The Urban 8.0 and 7.0, which incidentally has a difference front end design have neither in their build/spec.

I guess he didn't like the seat post...everything has been said and done like belt drive, igh, hydro brakes...ect.
But the unique split seat post...is way more intriguing than the bike itself.

I got the Cannondale bad boy 1 because it was easier to get in my country, Taiwan. Otherwise this one is one of the two choices for urban commuter for me.

I like the integrated light and fenders, the Urbane on Canyon's German site doesn't have the fenders or light, are these new or old features?

Who wants a commuter bike to be a head-turner?

My research into the Alfine 11 revealed a lot of unhappy owners.

I can't stand the leather accents, but otherwise it is a beauty!
Now, if it had a powerful integrated Kalkhoff battery and a motor (to top 45km/h on flats), and its beautiful integrated stem could accept a Lefty fork with an adapter, weighted under 16kg (ca. 36lb), I'd be very, very willing to upgrade.

Although I like the stem-integrated headlight, it does hamper use of a handlebar bag. The light location, therefore, is not ideal. A lower-set one, maybe? And a facility to charge a smartphone while on a bike tour?

I'd also upgrade the seatpost to a ThudBuster.

Even so, a beautiful bike still. A bold, but remarkably attractive design! My compliments, Canyon!

$2300.00 you could just get a beater to drive to work.

$2, 300?
It's a neat bike but may as well get an E-bike at that price.

It dosen't apper to have any real handlebar height adjustment.
