How to determine if an expression is a monomial, binomial, or trinomial

👉 Learn how to classify polynomials. A polynomial is an expression of the sums/differences of two or more terms having different interger exponents of the same variable. A polynomial can be classified in two ways: by the number of terms and by its degree.

A monomial is an expression of 1 term. A polynomial of two terms is called a binomial while a polynomial of three terms is called a trinomial, etc. The degree of a polynomial is the greatest exponent of its variable. The coefficient of the variable with the greatest exponent is called the leading coefficient of the polynomial. A polynomial is said to be linear if its degree is 1, quadratic if its degree is 2, cubic if its degree is 3, etc.

that is great, i didn't even have to explain much and you saw it! Let me know if I can help you further

Absolutely. Eliminate the fractions! how so? Multiply every term by the LCD "least common denominator" In this example it is 12. Then you will have an equation that is equivalent to your original equation but without the fractions. 9 = 48m - 10 Then you will apply inverse operations to isolate the variable. Did this make sense?

Thank you! I missed two days, and my teacher wouldn’t help

Well we know we can factor out a 4 to obtain 4(x^2+9) and if this is what you are referring too your factored form would be 4(x+3i)(x-3i). Pretty hard to explain over a comment section but that is the answer. Notice that the factored form contains complex numbers.

Mod G, it took me an entire week of self-teaching but i finally nailed factoring! And u helped immensely. Now I'm reviewing math 95 and a problem that i don't know how to calculate, if u have a sec can u guide me through, 3/4=4m-5/6? I'm not sure how to isolate the variable in this case. I thank u in advance.

Mod G, just wanted to stop by, tell u all my studying (of math 93, 95, 96) paid off, Tuesday i tested into 120! I will be able to graduate college after this semester. Thanks for your assist!

That's evident :) the smattering was almost a little boost of encouragement, "We still don't like maaaath, but we like uuu, Mr. G!" haha. The Vid was almost like u doing a show and tell. But it helped me immensely. I've been working on the factoring chapter since Friday (53 yr old college student) trying to test out of 95 right into 120. Thanks for the help Mr G, i still don't like maaath, but i don't like it just a little less...

I love the smattering of applause! It's absolutely endearing.

May i bother u with a problem? This factoring is killing me, just when i think i get it the book asks: the binomial 4x squared +36 is a sum of squares that can be factored. How is this binomial factored? When can the sum of squares be factored? Im thinking x squared +9, i found validation of this on YouTube but having to do with (i)?? Can u explain sum of squares, please?
