Remove and replace a lath and plaster ceiling

Why would you leave the lath? Remove it, update the wiring and plumbing. This seems counter intuitive

What tools did you use to remove the plaster and protect the cornice.

I bet that in a few months there will be cracks appearing, running around the joint between the Drywall and Cornicing. Seen this happen on loads of jobs where the ceiling has been repaired in this way to save the cornice. You need to get the drywall right in behind the cornice and ensure that there is a good bond with the cornice using adhesive and conditioner.

Should the lath be removed or does it matter? Looking to update my old plaster ceilings and wondering if it's necessary or if there are any drawback of leaving lathe up?

What if the property is old and plaster contains asbestos? Can the ceiling be over boarded without removing the plaster? Would it still require an asbestos licenced contractor I.e., would the overboading disturb asbestos? Thanks

Old building .slab will get damp and mouldy eventually not breathable.
