Option D....keep the truck and make a good daily out of her, have a machine shop do all the machining work, and replace the cam bearings for you, do the rebuild yourself, get you a good guide book, film it and take us along for the ride, put a slightly larger cam in it just for some torque...

I’ve rebuilt hundreds of engines for customers, they’re honestly very simple and straightforward and that jeep has a fairly basic engine.
Just do it yourself, you’ve got a huge wealth of information online of folk rebuilding the same or similar engines.
Clean everything and keep all bolts in order using cardboard matrix’s 👍

Good luck with whatever option you take. I like how these old J10s look.

Dad's got a '97 Ram Van 318 with 148k that makes about 18psi, so he's not sure what he's gonna do with it. Hopefully it's just gooped up.

I would check with another machine shop.
If they're saying that price is just to put cam bearing in it then that's high. You can rent a tool to put cam bearings in yourself.

Sorry if I annoyed about gloves, not my intent. Relacing the cam bearings and flushing the ports would make economic sense to me. Between other channels and a factory shop manual, it should be doable. Get one of those air pressure applied fillable spray cans and use kerosene should flush off with a sacrificial shopvac from FBMkplace or thrift store. Im a fan of early to mid 80s Nissan 720s if you're needing a truck. Bought one new it ran til parked.

In regards to your comment about the high cost of everything we call that " Bidenomics ". Thank goodness Trump won in a landslide. As for the Jeep - You have a solid Truck now thanks to all your hard work. I would pull the engine and have a complete rebuild done when you can afford it. I do not know how much mileage is on it but assume over 100, 000.0 miles due to it's condition. I had a complete restoration done in 2020 on my 1991 Ford Crown Victoria LX Wagon including complete engine rebuild as well as transmission rebuild, new radiator, tires, brakes, A/C compressor, and numerous other interior components such a rebuilt instrument cluster, heater/ A/C control panel and headlight switch due to the car sitting for ten years ( mice damage ) as I had to wait until I could afford to fix it. Do not give up on the truck as these new trucks are flimsy, over priced junk that rust out quick. I still have my Dad's 1966 Jeep J-2000 pickup with 7 and one half foot Meyer Snowplow I just repainted. All she does now to earn her keep is my driveway plowing. Thanks for the video !
