My first pure-manga video! This was a lot more work than I expected :\

Check out Eski Boo!

Stray Notes:

- I am definitely going to cover the movie
- At the time of me writing this, I am super tired
- I'm not a big comic dude, so this took a lot of reading for me to get confident enough to script and prepare a video, so my apologies on the delays.

I told you that while this may be the biggest pain in the ass and you'll hate it afterwards, the result will be so very worth it.

Easily your strongest video to date, and that's no small feat to accomplish. You made me a fan of your work all over again with this.

This manga broke me and then fixed me. Still not sure if reading it was a good experience or a horrible one, but for sure not one I regret having.

Also, godlike editing and content. I haven't really looked around for it, but every channel that does this type of analysis, does so for anime. This is the first one I find that does this kind of analysis for manga and holy shit I'm glad I found it

Thank you for this analysis. Koe no Katachi was such a painful read for me due to its accuracy in capturing the slow, apprehensive headspace of Ishida, and how pervasive the sense of overarching tension was. The conclusions you drew from Koe no Katachi's themes about empathy and how the panel-structure supported its thematic goals were so close to my heart, and I can't thank you enough for describing my feelings in words. In fact, my emotional attachment to the manga had me in tears by the end of this video. Beautiful.

Holy shit you sound absolutely exhausted at the end of this. I hope you are doing ok! Also the editing was absolutely amazing which probably correlates to my 1st statement. Keep up the good work buddy!

As a guy who loved reading this Manga you really put it into words in an understandable & concise way.
I'd be lying if when I read Koe No Katachi that I was aware some of this while reading, but that also goes to show how well crafted it is. Never too hard to read or dragged out, the panelling really is on a top level.

Wow, I knew the panel structure was special, but I didn't know what made it so special. I could tell it had very strict rectangular boundaries and an impressive layout, but never could really properly put it into words. This definitely clears that up.

Now I'm sure I'll buy and read that manga.

Editing manga panels is not easy, I do not envy the time this must have taken. Great manga, I'll have to come back to this once I finish it. :)

I'm finally able to watch this video after reading the manga.
I love Koe no Katachi. It broke my heart and slowly put it back together with the characters. I'm disappointed with the ending, but it was still beautiful nonetheless!

Great vid as always Joe

The first time I read Koe no Katachi was on the time of its publication, to seize the opportunity to discuss chapter by chapter with others. How fun it was (Ueno have no redeeming qualities or hopes), but even that the priority back then was the story and opinions, we/I could see that the pages were well thought, so I always wanted to re-read again to get a better look at this. Yesterday I finally did and I agree with all that you said in this video, there's no way to not get the same feeling and disagree, the pages and frames do just that.
Oima does a very good job with the medium. For what I know she planned the series for a good time before the publication and that effort shows.

You know, I almost never read manga, I just saw the movie, but the fact that now I know how this media also has its complexity and its ways to make pace and levels of intensity in scenes in various ways is very amazing. I love your video

am absolutely obsessed with your videos. i find it really great that you put forth a lot of effort into the editing of your videos, not just the narration over top of it. its delicate editing too, and i feel as though its probably not appreciated for how much effort you put into each video.
absolutely amazing videos- every. single. one. i get excited every time a new video is in my subscription box, thank you for uploading, you're wonderful.

When I first saw the title of this, I was immediately skeptical and defensive, despite having seen previous analysis videos from you in the past and having been very very impressed with you previous work. Koe no Katachi is a story that is very near and dear to my heart, and I have to say, excellent work with this analysis. It perfectly illustrates and points out the genius handiwork that Yoshitoki Oima poured into every cell of the manga. I had the pleasure of flying to the U.K. to attend the theatrical screening of the movie, and I can assure you that Naoko Yamada did a phenomenal job at bringing the story of Koe no Katachi to life on the big screen. The thematic elements seeped through every frame and visual illustration that the manga so brilliantly emphasized, and I am happy to say that the movie was everything I had hoped for and more. Hope you get to see it, and thanks for taking the time to make this video right. Keep up the good work!

This was fantastic and while it felt like it was one of the fastest videos you've done, it also felt like the most informative and interesting video essays in your catalog. The movie induced so many emotions in me at the time that it is possible I am biased, but I think your analysis really cut to the heart of what the author was getting at it in this story. It's incredible visual story telling and I'm glad someone took the time to analyze it and report on it. Right after this I'm going to buy a copy of this and see for myself. Great stuff, easily the best work you've created since your 4-part apocalypse series. (Unless this came out before that, in which case..idk, just great work).

althought I need to constantly Look up words to understand your video's they are well worth it. I like how you framed the conveyance using the panels back to how the author felt about the characters
