I am really glad he clarified in this way. I was concerned that he was insufficiently integrating modernity. Now, I am concerned that he is integrating too much skepticism, which I prefer. I still don't see how "metamodern" is a useful term.

I'd be very interested to see how a discussion between Brendan and Alex O'connor would go.

Metamodernists tear down their own gods, then build them back up again with whatever sterdy is left, over and over again. For most people, profoundly uncomfortable.

35:50 this part, in the "interested in a meta-modern christianity" is where the evangelism is, in that short phrase is a world-view that says that "once we where pre-modern and then we advanced to modern and then blha blha blha", that little story is a fundation myth, and each one of those is a religion.
religion, worldview, framework, ideology, it's just a name for the same kind of beast.

I’m being honest I’m not sure if bgd is going to read this but it seems the metamodern views of religion don’t work. Unitarian Universalism is shrinking very fast so are most forms of reformed Judaism and very liberal forms of Christianity that try to do the same thing. I’m just confused on what’s new ? Go to a uu church and you can hear the same things. Sadly the conservative churches are growing compared to the metamodern ones.

13:16 because today we're modernist, and are wrong, and in 500 AD people understood much more than we do now. thinking that categorizing every spices of ant is adding to our knowing is just mistaken.

Sola Scriptura must be from Switzerland, because it is full of holes. Sola Gratia of Paul, or nothing.

47:30 I understand how that can upset somebody, but that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard, and one could just be even more critical than that:
"how do you know what jesus said? can you travel back in time and listen to him preach? no? then you don't know! do you?" XD nothing that we today could have could ever prove jesus said anything: jesus chose the apostles, and I trust his choice, simple as. And even if you could travel back in time and learn arameic, you wouldn't understand a damn thing and would still end up having no other choice but to trust what the apostles say.
I trust that the people that put the bible together did it in a way that was faithful to what jesus wanted. all of this modernist stuff is just, a dud.
