VIDEO INFO: This is my personal favourite Aerosmith tune and its simplicity is deceiving – a certain amount of alchemy is required to lift it from a C+ rendition into the stratosphere, where this version is performed at the shiny new Ajinomoto Stadium (味の素スタジアム) in Tokyo for a capacity 50,000 audience on 27 June 2002 and bridged the ‘Girls of Summer’ and ‘Just Push Play’ tours. Intriguingly; the crowd, presumably under instruction, all seem to be attired in White (because of the flag colour perhaps?) and combined with the rigid seating arrangements is reminiscent of Fritz Lang’s ‘Metropolis’ or indeed the Queen videos that mimicked that, which coincidentally was my first reaction when I saw the ‘Erotic /Robotic’ artwork adapted from the Japanese original for the ‘Just Push Play’ album/tour.
The show was solemnly promoted by the organisers “to commemorate the first FIFA World Cup in the new millennium, as well as the first one to be held in Asia” and they were clearly aiming for a similar frisson to the NFL Superbowl shindig, which coincidentally Aerosmith had also just done that same year with assistance from NSYNC and Britney Spears.
But in contrast here there was no attempt at a crossover or any kind of integration with a game or the sport; no real mention of football was made during the show or represented in the graphics or props and I would bet quite a sum that the band has never sat through even half a match. There were a couple of token Japanese bands, but come on, it’s just an Aerosmith show, which is absolutely fine by me!

Furthermore, under United Kingdom copyright law; ‘Fair Dealing’ is an exception which allows for the use of copyrighted works without licensing in certain circumstances. It is governed by Sections 29 and 30 of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, which provide three types of situation in which fair dealing is a valid defence: (i) where the use is for the purposes of research or private study, (ii) where it is to allow for criticism or review, and (iii) where it is for the purpose of reporting current events.
Sufficient acknowledgement to the original author is also necessary for all works where the fair dealing exception is applied. Under Section 30(3), however, this is not required for reporting via a sound recording, film or broadcast where it would be "impossible for reasons of practicality or otherwise".
