Finally just watched this movie last night, after seeing shorts for months. I mean months. It was honestly really good, I didn't know it was disliked and considered Oscar bait-ey. A pretty unfair assessment imo, it does kind of skirt by certain racial issues a bit too quickly, but as an over 2 hour long film IG I get it.
The main focus is the friendship between Dr. Shirley and Tony, that was the heart of the film for me. The performances really bring it home!

Watched this movie recently because I kept getting the shorts, I like how it never forces their relationship with each other. They don’t become extremely close friends or anything, they just come to respect one another. It would be a bit unrealistic for them to go from disliking one another to close friends when they only spend two months together in the movie and in real life. When they meet there’s tons of friction, but by the end the movie they’ve both learned, Tony especially. Just a movie about two people who had a lot to learn about the world and themselves, and helped each other along the way

Tony Lip was really about that life, in real life he also portrayed Carmine Lupertazzi Sr on the Sopranos. He and Tony Sirico (Paulie Walnuts) really walked the walk though.
