Chinese smart-battery swap stations can change EV batteries automatically

Top Chinese EV maker Nio has released its second-generation battery-swap station, which can automatically change an electric vehicle's battery pack. The service has been welcomed by customers. Nio has completed more than 800 battery-swap stations in China as of February 2022 and it plans to build a total of 1300 by the end of 2022. Many other EV and battery makers in China have begun building battery-swap stations.

In fact, NIO's reputation in China has surpassed that of Tesla, and NIO has done better in both marketing strategy and after-sales service.

I think battery chargers should still exist, but in our houses. It's pretty convenient being able to recharge or "refuel" your EV at home as you don't really need to go to a battery swap station all the time. Battery swap stations can simply replace the battery chargers OUTSIDE our homes.

Finally someone with the right mind to implement this into cars. Remember seeing this concept for electric scooters in Taiwan. A lot more convenient for delivery drivers who have a higher mileage than other users.

As long as the connectors and shape of battery is standardized for all ev cars. Otherwise we would end up like with the phone chargers, all different ports/connectors.

Did my paper on battery swapping. Battery swapping is the best choice since it doesn’t require a large infrastructure. Can simply charge batteries and hold underground without building out a vast super charging network which also would take up a lot of real estate. Also, NIO doesn’t charge you the upfront costs of a battery making it more affordable for consumers.

Nio: here change fully charged battery with us, and just pay for charging cost.

A 3 minute battery swap is even faster than filling a petrol or diesel fuel tank. It also has the potential to eliminate the battery degradation problem for EV’s. Why not a future where you can choose between a 3 minute swap and a fast charge or an overnight charge at different price points? Different people will have different needs so let the market choose what is best for them.

Making the battery easy to remove also makes it easy to upgrade the battery in the future. As battery technology improves you can upgrade to a battery with more capacity, or maybe a battery with the same capacity but is lighter.

I always amazed how China look what other big companies did (Tesla producing EV), and they try to do the same with bunch of mind-blowing innovations. That's why their economy is growing like crazy.

Best thing about swapping is you can get bigger battery when it comes available. Currently the biggest battery NIO offer is 100kwh. But 150kwh will be coming out soon.
