Is it all over for Rishi Sunak and the Conservative Party?

The Conservatives' loss in Wellingborough was caused by the biggest by-election swing away from the party since 1994.

Then came Tony Blair's famous 1997 landslide victory.

So are we set for a repeat of history?

An important message to Tory voters at the next GE:
Stay home, save lives, protect the NHS.

😂

I’m not a huge Labour fan, but I’d be very satisfied to see tories get 0 seats. Useless, dangerous crooks.

Sunak is as confident as a one legged man in an arse kicking contest

I love to hear that the Tory Party thinks it voters stayed at home. Never thinking that 13 years of Conservativism has been so bad., that they are the problem. Sinking further and further with each Tory PM. Promising and never delivering. No Tory wants to believe they are the problem that drives people away.

Let us not forget that the prime minister's father in law is still operating in Russia and our exalted personage is still receiving millions of pounds from this connection plus the UK is also giving loads of tax payer money to the same company. "Disgraceful situation" does not describe this fully.

The last 14 years of Tory rule has been the most damaging and incompetent political rule in modern British history. Every single metric points downwards, people can’t even heat their homes and our once “German” living standards is starting to resemble “Spanish” or “Italian” living standards… Not to mention the death of the NHS!

Labour is a party I don’t particularly love either, but in comparison to the tories even a drunk homeless man would be a better choice for PM and parliamentary majority. So I will vote for anyone (with an actual chance of winning) but the tories this election.

We do however need a new proportional electoral system where more than 2 or 3 parties are all that matters, and where every vote gets actual representation.

I'm an American who likes to observe UK politics. Correct me if I'm wrong but if the Conservatives spend too much time, trying to appeal to the reform UK vote they risk losing moderate voters in marginal seats to Labour or Lib Dems. And there are those who will vote tactically just to get the Tories out correct?"

"..the tories would be left with just 8 seats" lol 😂 ideally they should have zero seats.

2010 our only "big" problem was closing the deficit, remember that? Sensible too after the 2008 crash. Tories have since created problems with their FIVE destructive leaders since, each one making things worse:
1) Cameron = starting Brexit
2) Theresa May = failing Brexit
3) Boris = lockdowns, partygate
4) Truss = causing financial nightmare in days
5) Riki Sunak = cost of living

Replacing low grade politicians with low grade politicians, that’s the choice.

I live in Holland, but feel very connected to the UK. And this feels like a day of hope for change! And now.... general elections!!

I wonder when Sunak will actually call the general. Hopefully not another December one.

Its of their own doing and after they will say we should have listened to the voters, they never do though, the public wanted a bigger windfall tax on the energy companies the Tories said no in favour of shareholder profits, this alone will cripple them because everyone is paying 100% and over for the same energy than they were 2 years ago, hardly anyone can see a doctor, the hospital waiting lists are horrendous, there is no incentive for professional hospital staff, its seem the Tories are doing their best to piss these people off, food prices have shot up and hardly coming down, insurance companies are seriously cashing in and profiteering without any regulation, there is little or no hope for the young to ever own their own home and to top it all off Truss wiped 12% from everyones private pension in a month of have more chance of being the next pope as they have of being re elected!

I always laugh at people in these comment sections who think the reason conservative voters are fed up is because they've given up on conservatism. The actual reason they're not interested in coming out to vote is because the policies of the conservative party are virtually indistinguishable from Starmer's labour party, so what does it matter? Anybody who is vaguely right-wing (Truss, Braverman) has their position sabatoged and is marginalized within the party.

Brexit, Boris partying, Truss meltdown, Post Office scandal, freezing of the tax threshold during a cost of living crisis: They shouldn't just lose, they should lose their deposits!
