Marc Ribot Guitar Solo | Way Down in the Hole | Tom Waits

Another fan favourite that I missed in my Tom Waits Guitarists documentary.
Way Down in the Hole is a wonderful track from the B-Side of Franks Wild Years.
Marc Ribot's solo on this song is another outstanding example of his truly unique and charismatic voice on the guitar.
He really does play like no one else!

Thanks. I think it was this solo that made me search out who this guitarist was and it came at a time in my musical life where I was realising that you didn't have to "play by the rule".

I often think of Marc Ribot as playing all the wrong notes at all the right times.

I live in a remote area with not a lot of guitarist around and fewer Tom Waits fans. To watch your video and have you point out how his bends start sharp or if the last note was a mistake, makes me feel less alone. Both I wondered about, but never had anyone to bounce this off of. If I asked the other guitarist in this town if the last note was a mistake they probably say "Boy, they all sound like mistakes." Thank you very much for making this.

Just found this channel and it’s amazing! Marc Ribot is my favorite guitarist (and I’m seeing Ceramic Dog this weekend!). I honestly assumed I was the only one who was obsessed with his playing and it never occurred to me to even try to learn his solos. I rarely try to do that anyway but I’ll be trying this and the Hoist This Rag solo.

Also, another slight omission from the Waits guitarist video: who does the solo riffs in Road to Peace? It’s short but so cool.
