When I peeked into my mind the first time
I was shocked to find
A babbling brook
When I took a closer look
I saw streams of dreams
I was really shaken
When it dawned on me
I'd just awakened
Now aware
I watched my mind meander
Here, there and everywhere
When my attention tether tightened
And grew taut
Now aware
I breathed a mindful breath
To remind myself
To remain awake
Instead of drifting off to sleep again
In an endless flow of roaming thought

I had the privilege of having been trained by Jon in MBSR way back in the early 1980s. As a result, I published the book, Mindfulness for the Common Man - To Survive Trauma, Abuse, and Recovery, available on Amazon. In the book I cover many of the mindfulness interventions I practice, as well as the neurobiology of mindfulness.
