You can also think of the wire as a garden hose, voltage as water pressure, current as the amount of water being moved and resistance as all the dirt in the hose blocking the flow

no, we use heat sinks to dissipate heat. we use resistors to convert electrical energy to heat. sometimes the objective is heat, sometimes the objective is to reduce current low.
