The NewAir countertop ice maker is an efficient, easy-to-use ice maker perfect for making ice cubes for beverages. Cleaning the unit is a simple, three-step process that only takes a few nontoxic household items, and a few minutes!

Step 1: Unplug the unit before draining any leftover from the plug in the back. Remove the ice basket and scoop.

Step 2: Wipe inside of unit with soft cloth dipped in lemon juice or vinegar solution. Replace components and reassemble unit. Plug in, pour solution into the water reservoir. Make a batch of ice.

Step 3: Drain. Close drain plug. Pour water into top of unit and make a batch of ice. Drain again.

With that, your NewAir AI-250W is back to running at peak performance! Be sure to repeat the cleaning process regularly, so your ice maker can last long and continue to perform well.

Tom, I own a Polar ice making machine and thought I was keeping it clean with white vinegar etc. Unfortunately the inevitable happened and both error lights lit up. Ice tray jammed! Removed all ice and refilled, no different. Next step was to take it to the local home utility repair shop (panic, Xmas and party time coming up). He doesn't repair them waste of money suggested I buy another. Which I did but a cheaper and not so go good ice machine.
I contacted the importer in Bristol and was put through to their engineering dept. They suggested changing the ice tray motor or the micro switches. Later when I had some down time I decided to have a go myself. Wow! After a bit of hit and miss found out it is only 4 (yes four screws and a bit of slide on the top and hey presto it's down to it's underwear. Cleaned it (it was really dirty in places you couldn't see) reassembled, tried it. And yes it works a treat. Video not necessary but can provide photo's if required.

here s the thing. this video shows someone cleaning a CLEAN ice maker. Plus the tray that slides underneath the ice is impossible to get to. Unless you use chopsticks or skewers wrapped with paper towels, etc. Love my igloo icemaker, cleaning is a huge problem.

How about you edit or redo this video to show us how to remove the top of the unit so that we can ACTUALLY get to and behind the water tray and clean it properly? Running some lemon juice/vinegar solution through it in any number of ice-making cycles just isn't sufficient. If you REALLY want to make a useful video you could also show us the steps needed to clean the heat-exchanging fins INSIDE the unit where dust builds up and blocks them.

Paper towels soaked in vinegar, then used a chop stick to push, twist, and clean the areas on tray behind ice maker stems. I still need to do the other half of the tray. I took one apart before and it sucks, might do again with a video

These machines are poorly designed in all shape and form. The ice maker is nearly impossible to fully clean. I own the igloo model but this is the only video I've see with someone attempting to show customers how to clean it. Yes the lemon juice and vinegar help sanitize the germs and mold, but the access to the tray and pump area are always covered in a film of slime or dirt and dust. If you want to avoid this issue clean your machine very often (but still will get some kinda inevitable build up) or just stay away from these machines unless you plan to spend hours trying clean way in the back tray with a tooth brush that really isn't doing much.

THIS DID NOT WORK: (Hey Jayme! We're glad you mentioned this, we've also noticed that question pop up pretty often. You can use the same lemon juice/vinegar and water solution, and wipe down the inside of the water tray with a cloth. if the reservoir is too small to reach into, you can also use the same solution and a soft brush with a long handle to clean out any dirt or mold. To prevent any particles from clogging the pump, it might be good to clean up as much of the dirt/mold with a towel as possible. For the rest, you can run a few ice cycles with the solution just like we did in this video.)

How do you clean the water tray! This is the most asked question on all these machines. It is the main part that gets the most mold....

I was able to work a rag into the water tray using a butter knife and worked it around to get it clean I'm sure there still scum back behind the tray but it' a lot cleaner now Good Luck to the rest of you

The very reason I looked up this video was to clean the area where ice is formed and it’s not covered in the video. Notice how they don’t clean a dirty used machine because it’s very difficult. Basically try hard using a brush because you cannot get your hand In there. A very bad design on all these ice makers.

All counter top ice making models have a drain, either on the side or more usually underneath the ice water reservoir. On the RCA 102 Igloo
model it is a small white plastic cap inserted into a small hole underneath the water reservoir. I usually remove the plug while the unit is over the sink and allow the water to drain. Then I remove the top of the ice maker to gain access to the ice making tray, all the side walls and other surfaces of the white plastic everywhere in the interior. You will also need a brand new toothbrush to rub those hard to reach corners. Try to not use any form of abrasive on the surfaces. This is normal maintenance. DO you think the hotels that have ice making machines on each floor maintain them as they should; of course they do not.

I have an igloo model. I can make a video for anyone needing to know how to clean that one! But I just cleaned it today so it may be a couple weeks

How often do you need to clean an ice maker? Also, how often does the water need to be replaced if you are running it continuously?

Water pump gets clogged. Unclogged by pouring 1/2 cup of vinegar plus a load of boiling hot water into container. IT WORKS!

My ice maker looks exactly the same as when I purchased it two years ago. :-)

Mine is not drawing water into the ice making tray. Motor is running but apparently the line is clogged. How to access?
