The Justice League x RWBY Crossovers films are... unfortunate.

I finally get around to reviewing the Justice League x RWBY cross overs. For reasons too arcane for my YouTuber brain, these somehow exist for reasons. And it is rather unfortunate they don't quite live up to their potential.

Also... this should've been a Sarcastically Explained.

What did you think of the crossover films?

I’ll still never understand why they didn’t just have RWBY crossover with the Teen Titans. Just feels like a better fit to me.

Honestly the reaction from both RWBY and DC fans when these movies got announced was “okay I guess? But like, why tho?-”

There was a whole JL episode about the Legion of Doom thinking they could take on Batman because he's powerless and being held hostage. Then Batman got them to wipe each other out using nothing but his words. All that to say, hearing RWBY JL Batman mope about not having powers was pretty jarring.

You know what’s wild. Despite how bad they characterize Batman they somehow managed to not do that bad of a job with Jessica.

They murdered my boy. They ruined Batman he doesn’t care about having powers. To quote Batman: I haven’t been a kid in a long time. That was when he got turned into a he was still his serious self.

The crazy part is every issue listed in this review is honestly perfectly consistent with RWBY itself as a franchise.

I remember thinking, when the first concepts came out, "Alright, how long before Superman loses his way and needs a bunch of teenagers to tell him what he should already know?" Then the Batman bit happened, and I kicked myself for holding my expectations too high.

Batman in most stories won’t care about powers, but it is notable that in a lot of els-world stories he goes (pun mostly certainly intended) bat shit insane when he does get powers.

My problems with two movies are these:
-P1: Shipping. Look, I know everyone likes Knightlight (Jessica and Jaune) but if in order to have that, I needed Cyborg getting between Nora and Ren and Batman acting all weird towards Wonder Woman, I would prefer no shipping. Seriously, why is there romance between characters that are never going to meet one another?
-P2: Yang being concerned over Ruby and Weiss regret over the fall of Atlas. My problem isn't with the moments itself, but more where. Why are these moments in a non-canon movie and not in V9? Considering the timing of release, I can't help but feel this was intentional so that they had some sort of B plot in the movie
It's so weird that we had a Volume and two movies this year, yet I feel like we progressed nothing.

In P1, team RWBY not fighting as a team was an oversight for this movie. Even the DVD special feature "Justice Comes To Remnant" had to splice two shots together to show the team but the placements were out of order.

I was genuinely surprised by how well they made Jessica and John relate to one another and was very disappointed they didn't even talk on part 2

A love triangle? In a set of crossover movies whole canonicity is dubious at best? WHY? From the onset, it's obvious it's not gonna be something that carries on forward, not gonna go anywhere, matter in the long run or affect things like the status quo. It should have been obvious from the idea pitch that it was gonna be a waste of time

9:00 this is one of those things that gets worse the more you think about it. one thing not mentioned here is the bat family; a long line of crimefighters all trained and inspired by batman. they aren't family in name only, they are for all intensive purposes Bruce's family. it makes no sense to abandon them for bat wings and sonar, two powers he can easily recreate with his tech.

Even as a pretty big RWBY and DC fan, my thoughts on P1 (still haven’t watched P2 yet) was “it’s fine”. Like it’s a straight-to-dvd(and digital) DC crossover movie and it feels like it, like something you’d put on in the car for a road trip as a kid. (Also Jessica was the best part Frfr )

The part that got me interested in watching it in the first place was the fact Carl Riggs was Superman and the Netflix Light “Yagami” was Batman cus that’s too funny

On your thoughts on Batman:

He even had powers at some point of his life and gave them up for the greater good so for him to throw away all that characterize him in favor of having some powers was really odd and out of character. If this was like year one batman, I can see it.

The biggest problem is they write littlerally every justice league character out of character, especially Batman. The idea of batman being tempted to leave the dc universe because he’d be able to “do some real good” in rwby made my skin crawl. They also imply the rwby crew had it harder because they’re child soldiers… ignoring the fact Batman started his training around the same age they would have because of the ptsd he got from having his family murderd. He went through insane levels of physical and mental training to start a one man war and he did it without a real support net or powers.

If you take them as Saturday Morning cartoons they’re pretty fun. A lot of animation is gorgeous and some of my favorite action & designs of the RWBY series are here.

As far as DC… I think the characters are handled pretty well. Im not a fan of the ship teases. Part 2 I like more for seeing the DC characters proper and being more action focused.

Tbh. I figured the bad guy was Watts or a video exclusive villian. No one else could actually trap someone in a digital world. But honestly I think a better villian woulda been Brainiac for the DC villian. He's actually taken down Superman before so him being the choice would have been a no brainer.

As for the Batman with powers thing. He wouldn't have wanted to stay for powers. He actually is proud of the fact that he is one of the few members who can stand side by side with ppl like Superman and Wonder Woman, with hard work and intelligence alone.

Apparently Nat Wolff (the Batman VA) wasn’t even gonna do this until his agent convinced him to accept the role
