“When I wrote this song, the words were quite different. It was about leaving school, wandering about town, hanging around outside porno movies and dirty bookshops and things like that — being very interested in sex but too frightened to get involved. Now it’s completely different. That was a function of all of us working together on the record, particularly Dave Gilmour and Bob Ezrin.” The finished track is one of the final creative collaborations between Roger Waters and David Gilmour. Only the chorus survived Waters’ original demo intact. The rest of the music was rewritten by Gilmour.

This version really grows on you the more and more you listen to it, so much so I end up liking it more than the album version on The Wall.

when you hear all these demos you really have to appreciate the amount of work that went into editing and polishing them to fit on 2 albums. makes me wonder how long the wall would have been if EVERY bit of music and lyrics written for it had been included. comfortably numb would take up a whole album side by itself.

This really does sound like an outtake from Gilmour's eponymous debut album. Sounds like a cross between Cry From The Street and No Way, tending more towards Cry From The Street! Cool piece of history right here!

I like to think this goes between blue sky and empty spaces. Pink after being over protected for most of his formative years finally falls in with the wrong crowd and gets involved with drugs and sex and forms his rock band, and later in young lust he is still living the rockstar life but faster and more destructive levels which is why young lust is more fast paced and energetic
