On August 15, 1947, we Indians got independence. So, we completed 75 years of our independence. This is the 76th year of independence. Usually, all people make this mistake. The difference is completing the years, and beginning of the next year. Regards

Actually this was to celebrate the progress we have made in 75 years of Independent India and the completion of our diamond jublee. Definitely it was our 76th Independence day anniversary counting the year 1947 as the 1st.

This confusion comes if u count 1947 as first Independence day. If u start counting from 1948, this is 75th anniversary. We got independence on 1947 but Independence day started as an anniversary from 1948 as first Independence day.

Just like we don't count exact year of wedding as a first wedding anniversary, we count from next year. I hope it will clear things up
