Even though the flash is one of the most beloved superheroes of all time, the character still doesn’t have a proper open world 3d game. This kind of a game is one everyone wants, so much so that people have started making fan games for the flash. Though there are games with the flash, none of them are really an open world 3d game.

Also when making a flash game, there are a lot of problems that have to be tackled. For instance, how do you tackle the problem of his superpowers being too overpowered. His super speed is the most glaring issue. There are also a couple of other problems, but like I say in the video I think it can be tackled in creative ways. The fans do show that they can be.

I also discuss all the games with the flash as a playable character. The most notable ones are Lego flash games like Lego DC Supervillains, Lego Batman 2 and Lego Batman 3, along with the Injustice games and dc universe online.

Hopefully DC will soon let The Flash have his own game like the Batman Arkham Series or the Spider-Man games. I know a lot of people would be excited for that.

The Flash would be perfect for a Kingdom Hearts, DMC or Bayonetta style action game, he is literally the perfect comic character to make a game where flashy combos are the priority

There’s a video by Unseen64, which goes into detail on the development and the eventual downfall of “The Flash:Fastest Man Alive” video game.Basically, publisher Brash entertainment (whom owned the rights to the flash) hired developer Bottle Rocket, to make the game.The development was going pretty great as it had;a basic storyline mapped out, a map, a combat system (which would’ve featured the famous “Infinite Mass Punch”) and various gameplay ideas which were being worked on (as you mentioned).

The reason for it’s cancellation was a sadly simple one.Brash was run as if it was a movie studio;it published lower quality games, to fund the ones they were actually interested in.This made their investors pull out one by one;up until the publisher filed for bankruptcy.I highly suggest you watch the Unseen64 video as it goes into much more detail.

The Batman Arkham Games can definitely do a flash game I feel like. They have the combat and the feel down.

Insomniac should make it, they mastered super powered main characters combat, and even speed (spiderman is much faster than a normal human)

Only way I see this being possible is making the world & NPCs around flash move super slow while the latter moves somewhat fast through his animations whenever his ability button is activated.
A game with flash moving extremely fast will be impossibly difficult to control - bumping into objects & walls every time you try to use his speed.

there is a flash game in roblox, which works perfectly. you have the option to either slow down time or run super fast. you can switch those two anytime. they made an open world with some iconic flash locations, like star labs, ccpd and MANY more. as for combat, you can use different abilities like lightning bolts and tornado hands, but there aren't boss fights or thugs, you just fight other players. if there were thugs, I'd like to go in slow-mo, change thugs' positions and stuff and then exit slow-mo, kinda like quicksilver from the x-men movies. for boss fights, they'd have to add other speedsters otherwise there's basically no point

Great video! I think combat would be the easy part of a Flash game if it were similar to DMC, stylish and responsive with every attack being cancelable, however fast the player input is so is Flash, with abilities like Flashtime basically being Dante's quicksilver, it's toggleable and upgradable on duration and how much it slows time but has a big cooldown, if you consume snacks from your inventory it cuts cooldown time. Snacks also helps Flash's speed healing as well and you can only carry so many so use them wisely! Phasing could make you entirely avoid damage if timed correctly similar to Dante's Royal Guard. Throwing lightning and rotating his arms would be mid to long range damage similar to Gunslinger, Trickster to focus on dodging and mobility like running and jumping up and off walls and ceilings similar to DC Universe, mixing that with combos for more style points and Swordmaster to chain melee combos. Momentum should be a mechanic similar to Vergil's concentration mechanic from DMC4 and 5 SE, but instead of a calm and precise playstyle it should be a fast and continuous playstyle, the more movement in combat the more momentum you build, the more momentum the more kinetic energy builds, the more kinetic energy the more damaging and creative the attacks and animations become, with sparks and more impactful sounds and SFXs with each hit, and if you time your attack cancels at the right times during your combos your momentum gauge should increase much faster, same goes for phasing at the right times, coupled with occasionally activating flashtime giving a boost to the momentum gauge. Which means a pro should nearly always have a full momentum gauge and actually look and feel like the Flash in combat.

Now It isn't truly a DMC clone without a devil trigger. *Infinite Mass.* Infinite Mass is a state where Flash taps into the speed force completely, his skin has a faint golden glow, orange gold lightning coursing through his suit and through his veins, and bright golden glowing eyes. The screen has a slight golden tint and it warps everything around you when you move. Lightning strikes and electrocutes by just standing still or moving around near by enemies, making it easier to stun, juggle multiple enemies and crowd control similar to Final form keyblades in KH 2, all enemies are automatically in slow motion (even some other speedsters) the momentum gauge maxes out by just moving, you move twice as fast and do twice as much damage and take far less damage. Speed healing is faster and works during combat as if you healed. Attacks and animations are flashier and the longer you keep consistent combos the faster your finisher prepares, similar to KH 3. The finisher is of course Infinite Mass Punch where Flash gets into sprinting position and lunges past his target, the camera catches up to his back as he is running and from his perspective you see night and day pass within seconds as he raises his fist and strikes his target directly in the jaw, turning his target into a pillar of light that dissipates into nothing. (IMP finisher can only be used on powerful metahumans that can survive such an attack, powerful aliens, the undead and synthetics/robots.) Infinite Mass state ends immediately after executing the finisher even if there is still meter left. If Infinite Mass ends or is toggled off Flash will be in the *Fatigued* state temporarily, every positive effect you got from Infinite Mass becomes a negative effect when it's gone. And you can't use Flashtime during this state. (there should be items to counter these effects)

Of course there should be different enemy types and ways to deal with each one to make a challenge. One that comes to mind are the speed force vests the aliens wore to move on par with the Flash family in the 1 minute war Flash comic, if those could be implemented into the story and used by specific enemies it would be more challenging, especially when it's a lot of them. Maybe phasing and bullet time wont work on them and you have to rely on dodging with trickster moving in and out when there is an opening. And the tanky enemies should be easier to defeat by stripping their defenses with phase grabbing, similar to Nero's Devil Buster/Breaker with different animations depending on the enemy it's used on. Status effects and elemental effects should also be considered, like frost and stun etc, but keeping it simple and fun is key.

Traversal is the difficult part, you want to feel fast but it's easier said than done, you don't want it to feel as slow as Infamous 2, or as fast as Warframe, and you also don't want it to hold your hand either like a glorified fast travel. I think the only way proper central city traversal should work for Flash is through machs/levels of speed that you unlock through the game, with each level making Flash faster and everything else around him slower, navigation becoming more reliant on your reflexes and timing to cut corners sharply. I imagine central city to be an open world to traverse through, similar to Spider-Man PS4's New York but Flash shouldn't be able to run into cars or pedestrians at super speeds, instead he should automatically phase through them but it slows him down a bit. Avoiding sidewalks and running in the center of the street and slide drifting turns are ways to keep your speed up, you also have the ability to dash left, right and jump over cars to keep your speed up, which would be a fun challenge for races to be created around the city by devs and other players. Races should have a leaderboard showing everyone's personal best for that specific race, and using flashtime also effects your time.

Mach 1 would be a maxed out DC Universe speedster with a slight visual distortion to make it feel faster, mach 2 would be a level 99 Sonic from Sonic Frontiers. More of a challenge to navigate at that speed through central city but if you get the hang of it you will feel like a professional speedster. Mach 3 would break the sound barrier and everything around you is slower with more visual distortions. At this speed turning normally wouldn't work very well so the triggers (for controllers) should snap turn you left and right while you sprint forward, timing your turns to cut corners becomes necessary at this speed, becoming more of a reflex game. You can use Flashtime without a cooldown while not in combat to slow everything around you even more, making those turns easier. Trickster would allow you to run up and jump across buildings at the same 3 levels of speed, similar to DC Universe but immensely faster.

And we can't forget Barry Allen gameplay moments through the story while he's not running around as The Flash like investigating metahumans, forensic work, crime scenes etc, I'm sure there is so much more to a Flash game that would make it perfect, I hope you found this comment food for thought and that it gave you a few ideas. We want the superspeed but it's tough to handle the actual effects of it. I think they could make it work like we say Quicksilver do in X-men: Let the player make moves in slow-motion, then when you're satisfied with all you've done, you can replay it in real-time speed and we will see all those slow-motion decisions happen in real-time and can laugh and have fun at it. Also, several of the Flash villains have superspeed themselves or other powers that greatly affect Flash in different ways, so there can still be challenging boss fights, but regular villains will never pose any threat at all to Flash.

I just imagine a Flash game where you control the speed you're moving at by scrolling the mouse wheel, so the change is very gradual and you have lots of speeds at which you can approach a situation. On console it would probably work with the controller gyroscope, say you hold a button and by tilting the controller you change the speed. That way, you can change the speed at which you're moving without having to stop or make weird awfward movements.
The map in a Flash game would have to feature a lot of open spaces, very wide corridors, gentle corners and lots of different areas to traverse. The speed and angle of attack would determine the type and strength of the attack, so instead of using lots of different buttons/gadgets, your choice of engagement would be determined by how fast you're going, how much kinetic energy you've accumulated and how/how long you were pressing the attack button. Attacking a target could also be tied to quick-time events that work as the combos from the spiderman games, and instead of having specific buttons you have to press for the QTE to be successful, you can sort of "customize" the attacks you deal by choosing which attack to use during the QTE.
In general, it just has to come down to gameplay, how do you: 1. Make it bearable at a speed you can still manage, 2. Make you feel like you're going fast, make you feel like a speedster and 3. Make it fun.
