Hello :)
I take the benefits of both sides:
Living very close to the Danish border in Germany..
But working in Denmark! This results in...:
- Yes, higher taxes, but absolute higher income. (driving about 130km every day, gives you a lot of money back every year!)
- Cars costs a third of what they cost in Denmark!
- I personally live with a really low house rent, compared to 'small' cities in Denmark.
- I grew up with the Danish language right from the Kindergarten. So no probs here.
- The work-life balance, Danish mentality, health insurance and job security is astonishing compared to the US! U can't get fired from one day to another!
- Indeed, they'll help you, treat you and send you to courses to upgrade your skills, so you are more valuable for the business! THEY CARE ABOUT YOU!
- Sick days: You feel sick, and can't go to work? You just call in, or write an email. That's ok! PAYED sick days are nearly 'unlimited'. After some time of sickness you'll have to prove it. (Employers will contact your health insurance to take over the costs! And they wanna know!)
This is 'normal' to most European countries, but I think, Scandinavia is doing an extra effort to it!

I can't understand, why the US is slaughtering ppl with the amount of costs for a dose of needed medicine, making them homeless, ruin their lives, pushing them into debts they have to struggle to come out of.
Simple fact: Its all about money!
We, in Europe prove them to be false every day!
Your capitalism ruins your Country, and you don't see it, because you want to make MORE money.
But at the end, it wont work out...
You're blind!

Rent is not so high when you come outside Copenhagen and Aarhus, a 60m² costs in many places as low as 2800kr and up to 4600kr or 380$ to 630$ a month, and if you are a student or are unemployed or do not earn that much, you can get subsidies from the Danish state. For example, I pay 4600kr in rent and get 670kr a month in support, from the state because I am an early retiree.

Dog insurance is required by law and if you have a cat, the legislation says that anyone can take a cat and make it their own, if the cat is not ID-marked. So don't let your cat run outside without an ear tattoo or ID chip, you risk the cat is no longer yours 🙀😂

ok, but how did you concretely find your job? how long were you searching? how did the employer behave about the fact that you were abroad? how long did it take to get the tax number? For the dog, you brought him with his passport and declared him once he was in Denmark, that's all?

Olá Joana, do you know if we can keep the same driving licence here in Denmark as the one from Portugal?

I am Argentinian living in Switzerland with my danish gf. I love our trips to Denmark, the vibe is great and people are deceptively friendly. But there is absolutely no chance I would move there and go from paying 15% tax on 110K to paying like 45-65% on already less money
