Don't know if you ever tried it, but Rit whitener and brightener or white wash really makes shirts bright white. It is by that brand that usually makes dyes to tie dye with. I used it the other day on a shirt that I have tried to bleach wash it like at least 10 times that I didn't really want to give up on it and it came out like new white. The shirt was stained pink and I had some other whites that were dingy and stained from being washed with jeans and they came completely out as well.
