Learn the difference between possessive pronouns vs possessive adjectives in this English grammar lesson for beginners. We use possessives to express ownership, possession or define relationships. The possessive adjectives (or determiners) are my, your, his, her, its, our, and their. The possessive pronouns are mine, yours, his, hers, its, ours, and theirs.

We use possessive adjectives before nouns.
Example: That is my jacket. This is your hat. Where is her scarf?

We use possessive pronouns in place of nouns.
This jacket is yours. That one is mine. Is this scarf hers?

At the end of this lesson, we will compare both types of possessives. There will be an eight question quiz to help you test your knowledge!

Chapters:
00:00 - What are possessives?
01:20 - Possessive Adjectives (Determiners)
04:25 - Possessive Pronouns
06:40 - Comparison with Examples
08:40 - Quiz

I got all eight correct. Being a native English speaker made this quiz easy, but what interested me were the rules that apply to possessive pronouns and adjectives. Those I did not know. Jennifer, you explained everything so clearly, thank you!

Hello, dear teacher
Is good to see you again, I did the quiz right because of you and the other teachers I have, so I got eight out of eight.
Thank you, God, bless you.🌹
