Genetic Testing | Different Types of Genetic Testing

Genetic testing is the process of examining DNA, the genetic material that determines an individual's traits, to identify changes or mutations that may be associated with a particular disease or condition. There are different types of genetic testing, including diagnostic testing, predictive testing, carrier testing, and prenatal testing, each serving a unique purpose. Diagnostic testing is used to confirm or rule out a suspected genetic condition, while predictive testing is done in individuals who have a family history of a particular genetic disorder but do not currently exhibit symptoms. Carrier testing is conducted in individuals who do not have symptoms of a genetic disorder but have a chance of passing on the gene to their offspring. Lastly, prenatal testing is performed during pregnancy to detect any genetic abnormalities in the fetus.
