The ever shifting importance of Bakhmut

Crazy how the analysis went from “not strategic city” to now it’s extremely essential

When Russian loosing, Bakhmut is immensely significant but when Ukraine is losing then Bakhmut is insignificant. Source: British media

It’s unreal how the the Russians advance with no ammunition and only shovels. I’m impressed.

im from donetsk and what i can say is they are aiming to take slovyansk so bad because there's a water access. people in donetsk don't have water in their homes since march/april 2022, sometimes they have to melt snow or use rain water. if russians will take slovyansk - they will get water. but honestly i dont want to have water if there is going to be a lot of victims. i can live without water and peoples' lives are much more important. i just want peace for my home

I'm following the situation in Bakhmut on quite regular basis since August 2022 i.e. at the time when the Western mainstream media hardly mentioned it or if they did so, then they just stated how Russian army is suffering casualties for such unimportant city. At the beginning of this year the situation changed - it was impossible to hide it anymore - and I heard that Russians might be close to encircle this unimportant town...and now I am told that Bakhmut is of strategic importance? How can that guy be a military expert ? Sorry to say, but either he is a total dilletante or he just says what he is likely well paid for. It is very sad to see it. Well, when a war starts, the truth is the very first one that dies.

From what we've been seeing on T.V, Russia shouldn't be able to hold any territory at all let alone encircle one. Ukraine has the best weapons including HIMARS While Russians are lacking ammunition and weapons and are poorly trained and have no morale. It then confuses me to see that they're about to capture a fiercely defended Ukrainian city. How is this possible?

I am sure I heard Michael Clarke say less than 2/3 days ago that bakhmut has no strategic importance 🧐

according to these analysts everything being important or unimportant depends on russia capturing it or not ..if fighting is going on ukraine holding it its important the moment russia captures it ..it becomes unimportant

Can we all just agree that Bahkmut has strategic value already?

They said just three days ago that Bakhmut had not strategic value.

Honestly, don't know why, but I feel like the next city of interest is gonna be Avdiivka. makes a lot of sense to me because while most everyone's eyes have been on Bakhmut for months, I've noticed on the live maps the Russians have made very slow, discreet, yet effective movements around the city and it's looking like they're setting up a pincer maneuver around Avdiivka. if they do end up making an attempt to take Avdiivka, this would be a huge blow to the morale of the Ukrainians. I do believe that the Russians are trying to wear the frontline down/ manipulate the morale of the Ukrainians, and I feel like we're starting to see this a bit more often than last year. I also think that the Russians believe they have time on their side (which given the circumstance, they most certainly do).

The propaganda apparatus now transitions from having strategic value to having political significance. Someone wearing blinders can comprehend how strategically important Bakhmut is and why Ukraine is putting those soldiers to meat grinders. Zelensky acknowledges that Bakhmut's defeat made it easier for Russian operations to run smoothly.

Wait didn’t this analyst said two weeks ago that Bachmut has no strategic importance? Claiming Russians want to take it just to claim a phycholgical victory? Weird how often this analyst changes his position

If it wasn’t important the Ukraine army would have already abandoned the city

*200 billion dollar NATO professionally trained Ukrainian army losing another major city to a small private military contractor called Wagner PMC. Another humiliating loss for Ukraine and NATO.*
