The Oxenkopf, what you used, is a Split-Hammer, not a Split-Axe. Oxenkopf has also Split-Axes, i have used one for 30 years. The hammer is only for make a little opening, where you push the splitter in and then drive it in . The Split-Axes from Oxenkopf are much better then the hammer. I also owned a hammer for opening 1 meter long wood. Here you compared two different tools.

When splitting don’t hit the same spot the whole time. Move on the path of a line so the force is spread out to help crack it.

The ochsenkopf 18/19 catalog found on kc tools shows the twisted aluminium wedge listed as model no. OX 41-1000

Great wood splitting... large pieces like that can be cut using a method called scalping

I would allways take a splitthammer istead of a splittaxe.

The lighter axe is better for all day work - also make sure to use any natural fractions etc in the wood to split it more easy and if very hard avoid chop in the middle take small pieces instead, thanks for your nice videos

Try hitting the rounds at the edge and not dead center.

7:05 yes accurate hits right in the middle but the placement is wrong. U need to split and create a line not hit the same place. So 10/10 for accuracy 0/10 for placement

Nice review as always gtr I also had the hammer head type splitter and proved useful as a sledgehammer also. For tough wood it splits better I find as it has the weight behind it..

I nearly always find u only need the wedge to split the big chunks in half

Try putting knots at the bottom of the log, they split easier.
