Easily a slept-on gem from Master Of Puppets.
This song is probably the earliest example of anti-religion Hetfield/Ulrich poetry. It's mainly aimed at Christian 'televangelists', who'd typically use a person's guilt to con them into giving money to their megachurch. By promising people their safety with donations, these 'televangelists' have been long-reported to ironically keep the money for themselves.
Another interpretation is that Religion doesn't deliver on everything it promises and only ends up manipulating and controlling the masses; keeping with the overall theme of the album 'Master Of Puppets'.
