My husband has discovered your channel. He saw a short not too long ago, and was like omg you should hear this. I said, "who the hell do you think I've been talking about all these years?". Now he gets to go all the way back to the beginning and watch them as all new. He's loving it. Thank you again for your service and all you are doing now. Much appreciated

I honestly can’t believe I started watching this channel back before it had 100k subscribers, way back during Covid, and now it has over 9 million. Keep up the amazing work John, we all love you and your story telling!

Your videos have kept me from going into the woods, into chimneys, into mountains, into attics, and into the water. You’ve saved my life.

Incase anybody was hesitant to check out wartime stories.. it’s incredible. I found his videos a little over a year ago and it’s genuinely one of my favorite channels on YouTube. Definitely worth checking out.

Many I’ve tried to duplicate you, but none can match the way you tell a story. You’re an amazing storyteller and I always listen to her stories. Thank you for your time and your service.

I grew up on the Oregon coast. We had gold and coal mines everywhere from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The lost Libby Mine was our claim to fame. There were references to it in early 20th century literature and the legend is that a number of miners were trapped in it when it collapsed, never to be recovered. No one has ever found it to this day, although I think my friend and I and his dad found it back in the late 70s. I was in 8th grade when we went out looking for it. His dad was kind of obsessed with it. When we come upon what was obviously an overgrown, collapsed entry in a gulley in the woods, Shelby's dad just covered the area with foliage and asked us not to tell kids at school. I lost contact with Shelby after I left for college and then the military. I have to wonder if he actually found it or another lost mine.

I grew up in Canada so I'm "in the know" about Canadian related content, the wilderness, abandoned gold mines, exploring the back country and things.

As someone who’s been a fan since his early YouTube days, seeing how his community grows makes me so proud. Well deserved, Mr. Ballen!

I hate to admit it, but i was MONTHS behind on the podcast. But i just took a job as a school custodian and its been the perfect thing to listen to while I'm cleaning all alone in a converted 100+ year old farmhouse in the middle of nowhere. Thanks John!

I do a lot of fishing, hiking, and kayaking. Anytime I’m in the great outdoors, I can hear MrBallen in my head setting up the story that will end with my strange, dark, and mysterious demise.

Mr Ballen, one of the best storytellers around. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time.

Nothing quite like listening to Mr Ballen curled up in a blanket on the couch watching mother nature dump rain outside. Best Sunday ever

Imagine finding so much gold, that you're able to retire early, and then you end up dying looking for more gold

I don't know about it. If i heard an 86 year old man tell me he was going after a lost gold mine, i'd assume he was really just going to find a peaceful place to die. I don't think this guy had any intention of returning to town or if he did, that was clearly an after thought. Like if he did find the gold mine he might try and come back. One last adventure before he died, that's what this sounds like to me, and i'll be honest, it's not a bad way to go. It certainly beats dying in bed.

My son, daughter, and I love your stories. We sit literally sit around a bonfire in our backyard and watch on our projector screen. Much love, brother from one vet to another. As much as I work now, at least I this to share with my kids.
