Predators dont attack other predators for a reason, they attack prey. Act like a predator, you are one.

Fun fact: staying out of the ocean guarantees no bumps from sharks.

Advice that is better than trying to swim for it, but it still won't change what the Quinn character said in the Jaws movie: "Sometimes the shark goes away, but sometimes he doesn't."

As someone who professionally fights sharks for a living, I can confirm this.

Running from ANY predator is a bad idea. Their instincts kick in, and they know you’re easy prey. Easier said than done, but you gotta stand your ground.

I went overboard after the ship accelerated I entered the water by the rudder close to the 6ft screws (propellers) under water I could hear them turning it was a deep resonating "WOOMWOOMWOOM" that spelled my doom so I had to get high away to avoid being chopped to pieces. The strong Gulf of Mexico summer current got me and since I had just tied up to a oil rig the crew boat couldn't get to me until the second shift crew got out of bed so the current took me out to sea. The hardcore WaterSurvival training drilled into my brain that I never thought my life would depend on kicked in told me to struggle was futile, that if I tried to swim against the current with all my might I'll just end up drowning in exhaustion. That area was shark infested so I floated with as little movement as possible, I didn't have a vest on and it was a clear night with no moon and I knew the chances of my rescue were slim to none. I did my best impersonation of a floating log for about 6-7 hours and my body started to give up, I was becoming hypothermic I knew my end was near. Then I distinctly heard someone say with a comforting voice say "Don't worry, it's going to be ok" I assumed Iit meant I was to die but it won't be that bad but then I saw a blinding bright light and heard "I see him, there! Stop!!I see him!!" It was the ship spot light so against all odds, against any logic, I got rescued by my ship. I tried to put on a brave face but I couldn't hold back my emotions, I bawled like a baby, I was so spent I couldn't raise my arms for the life ring plus I didn't want to splash in case any sharks were trailing the ship. They eventually hauled me up like a and I collapsed on the deck, I couldn't even stand without help. I was super palle almost blue, they carried me in stripped of my clothes put me in a thermal survival blanket gave me a cup of hot chicken bullion. Thru tears I was blubbering trying to thank them over and over. Capt. Put a saline IV on me. I turned red, my temp was way below normal but after a few hours I recovered. When you experience something like that it does something to you. I don't talk about it but I think it affected and still affects me today.

My dad swam with all sorts of sharks, he said he felt the most scared in his life when a great white pulled up on him. That was more terrifying to him than war, but after the initial 10 seconds of pure fear, he said he grew a pair and rubbed the great whites side belly. He kept trying to touch it and it ended up not like it at all and just left him alone. Sharks see us as food when we are splashing and stuff, but if we show them we’re not to be messed with they won’t because it’s a proven fact there more scared of us than we are of them

Absolutely agree.
As a note, if a shark "bumps" you, it's typically to test your response(see if you're going to fight being food). If no response, next step is the taste test.
