I remember watching that Nitro live, no DVR, no social media, live time Pro Wrestling at its greatest, what a match that was. Not a match for star ratings, it was an amazing house and the place blew when Bill gave Hulk that huge jackhammer. Heenan on commentary was electric. One of WCW's greatest moments!

The greatest thing about the Monday Night Wars was the weekly main events that could have easily been pay per viewed.

As a kid who loved wrestling, and also grew up poor, i never got to see any PPVs. I always had to hear about the results at school the next day from my friends. So getting to see my favorite wrestler Goldberg beat Hollywood Hogan on a regular old Monday Night Nitro and win that title was HUGE. So hats of to Bischoff and mostly Hogan for actually coming forward with this idea which was extremely out of character for him. One of my favorite moments that is forever burned in to my brain is when Hogan stepped out from brhind the curtains, looks directly at the camera and says "I am gonna kick Goldberg's... Butt!". I laughed so hard at that corny line and to this day makes me laugh. It was so bad lmao. Then watching him get what he had coming in spectacular fashion. Spear, jack hammer, 1 2 3 and the crowd goes wild throwing alk their garbage in the ring. Epic.

That criticism of Goldberg / Hogan not being on PPV only started in the shitty social media era.

What does WCW need PPV money for at that time? The point, we’ve all since learned, was generating tv numbers to sell ad space for Turner. Goldberg vs. Hogan belonged on Nitro.

Props to Bischoff for doing this. I was younger when I was into wrestling and my parents couldn’t afford to order the PPVs for me so those Monday Nights were ways for me to find out what happened on those PPVs. The fact that this aired on live TV and I stayed up late to watch Goldberg vs Hogan on my TV was such a moment that I’ll remember as a fan.

Sure, it would’ve made sense business wise to hype it up for PPV but I appreciate that they gave that match to us on live TV. Such a surreal episode of Nitro!

The Time Warner AOL merger was such the failure, the only people who made money were the damn lawyers who put together that horrible deal.

My respect for Hogan just went up for putting my guy over clean. Goldberg may not be a Bret Hart and Mr. Perfect. Or Flair and Steamboat. But he put asses in seats, he loves the fans, he got people on their feet, and he made the match explosive. WM33 with him and Brock is my second favorite match because it was violent, explosive, and awesome.

Bischoff's achievements in WCW and WWE are underrated. He has a great mind for this business.

It was great having it on tv because many fans, like myself and my dad, had to choose which ppv we were going to order each month. This allowed us to get Fully Loaded so it worked out well.

I don’t like Bischoff but he’s exactly correct here. I watched that match on Nitro and I still remember it vividly to this day. Goldberg beating Scott Hall, then beating Hogan on the same telecast. I’ve never been interested enough in wrestling to spend money on a PPV, but seeing this broadcast captured my interest

When a relevant match happens on TV it elevates the entire show. It's absurd to say any match is too good for TV.

I just luv Eric Bishoff. Just like Flair, Hogan, and others. I would pick his brain on knowledge. Good Stuff 👍

Hogan could actually shoot wrestle. He didn't show it that much in the U.S., but he did in Japan! He was trained well.

I appreciate that Eric has reasons why he did stuff and some stuff he would do differently but a lot he’d do the same cause Turner and Time Warner and AOL killed WCW, not Bischoff or Goldberg or Hogan

I can think of at least 2 things wrong with the title of this

I never believed Hogan would find anyone that loves him more than himself. But surely Bischoff loves him just as much as he loves himself.
