Neil referred to this song as being about a powerful “religious experience”. However, he said it isn’t the kind of religious experience between “man and God”. Rather it is one designed to be between a man and the woman he loves.

The better, more impactful version was recorded with the London Symphony. It is a song equating new love to an almost religious experience. Feeling like that person is your 'everything'

Love Neil, thanks. Not too many reactors cover him. Lots of hits, and IIRC he wrote most of his stuff himself. I think there was a Broadway musical of his life and career.

Not to sure why you’re listening to studio versions of Neil Diamond. He was a live performer, one of the greatest ever. You could review his live version of Holly Holy from the BBC 1971, it has fair copyright use…

This is what i was raised in Kodiak Alaska a beautifl Island in the late 60s and the 70s we had out standing songs and song writers like Neil Diamond John Denver Cat Stevens Gordon Lightfoot Jim Croce this is why my faverite Deacade for OUT STANDING music of is the 70s

I read some where that some times Neil writes with what is call stream of consciousness writing. Where you sit with pen and paper and write what passes through mind.

In an interview with the BBC, Diamond said of this song: "What I tried to do was create a religious experience between a man and a woman, as opposed to a man and a god." Amazing Neil! And the amazing instruments that we don't hear anymore.

I think this was the first Neil Diamond song I heard when I was in grade school, grew up with his music, he's a legend. Love his music, especially the early years. "Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show", "Cherry, Cherry", "Sweet Caroline", "Cracklin' Rosie", "Solitary Man", etc....! There are so many!
