2004-08 Ford F150 5.4 3V - CHEAP + OEM QUALITY EVAP Purge Valve Solenoid Hose Replacement

I'm big on preventative maintenance. I had noticed the hose going to the EVAP purge solenoid on my '04 was getting a bit dried out. Cracked, dried-out hoses are never a good thing. Engine heat tends to dry out rubber and lead to rough idle, lean codes, and other drivability issues as the hoses break down.

3/8" ID Gates fuel/EVAP hose off Amazon and some 5/8" OD Clamps and we are all new again.

The barbs just slide into the hose and I clamped the OEM intake manifold clip to the new hose. Just like factory.

A lot of these hoses are now discontinued but glad this is all easily made yourself.

Thanks for the video. My 07 Expedition with the 5.4L 3V triggered a P0171 code aka lean mix. The factory hose is junk. It dry rots and splits. I found mind to be split and sucking air. I did a quick fix by wrapping electrical tape around hose til I could replace hose. One thing you forgot to mention is the size of the new hose. Great video.

I have a bad coolant leak and I can’t find it. It seems to be behind the engine on the driver side on my 4.6L. I think it has to something to do with the evaporation system. Could the problem be as simple as hoses?

Hi Johnny, thanks so much for your video. This is my exact problem.

If its possible to ask, when you removed the barb connectors from the old hose, were you able to pull them right off?

Thank you for this helpful video. When this hose leaks vacuum the truck will post a check engine light with lean fuel trim codes on both banks. Carefully cut the old hose off the barbs with a razor. To reduce the risk of cracking the plastic barbs boil water in a cup in a microwave then hold the end of the new hose in the hot water to soften and expand the hose end making it much easier to push over the barbs. As an option 2 plastic zip ties will hold the center support clip to the hose.

Excellent nice work thanks for sharing. Mine has 89, 000 miles on it and I’m certain it’s sucking air

Thank you for the outstanding video, money saving tip, and extreme decrease in the frustration factor. What was the total length of the 3/8" dia fuel hose that you used? 2.5'?

Do you have a picture or diagram of all the hoses from purge valve because we just got truck and looks like they changes around things and the dealer can't figure out as either? My evap solenoid looks different then this as well f150 Lariat 2005

I for one really appreciate the work you put into this. I'm your newest sub! Thanks for the detailed instruction...very much appreciated! If I may ask, do you replace other/all engine bay vacuum lines/ tubes this way? Thanks again.

What’s the name of the other hose next to the one you replaced?

Hey Johnny I'm having some issues with my truck, I visually inspected things and I noticed that top hose that you just replaced, is collapsed when hooked up to the evap valve. When I unhook it while running There is a lot of suction coming from the hose when still connected to the manifold. is that normal? And if it's collapsing when I hook it up to the evap does that mean that my evap valve is bad? I have no idea how this works but I know I can do the replacement

I'm like Mike S., what size (ID) is the hose? Since I am a shade tree mechanic, would a 3ft long piece be long enough? Looking forward to hearing from you 3V Johnny!
